Two of the best white heavy s from there era. Both came to prominence fighting big names in fights that were talked about long after 'bugner v Cooper and golata v bowe'. Big talented European fighter's that had their share of the headline s. Who wins. 15 rounds like the good old days.
Even though I think Joe Bugner is the better fighter when sized to the rest of the field, I'm likely to pick Golata in an actual face off. Bugner didn't have the imposing or aggressive style to force Andrew into one of his freak outs and quit. He didn't have a ton of power and often fought to survive or did just enough to "not lose." I'm thinking Golata by decision.
Prime Bugner was the only fighter to go the distance with Ali and Frazier twice. Not a big puncher Golota wouldn't freeze or go berserk with dirty tactic's. JB was like Emile Griffith was never the same after ring death. Before JB tragic fight with Ulric Regis his record was 13 - 1 12ko. After fight became less aggressive. JB like AG never seemed to win the big fights and this time though AG out jabs a cautious JB. Golota on points. Ulric Regis was a another sad boxing death. http://www.sportarchivestt.com/athletes/ulric-regis/
A prime in shape focused bugner could do it I think. At his best very good defensive counter puncher. Golata would be using his strong arm tactics and mixing in his jab with with the right. But bugner would be doing the better work. It would be a entertaining fight I feel if both bring there top game. It would be very close at the end but bugner just nips it. But I do stress bugner has to be on the ball against golata other wise he'll be battered by him.
