Carnera was in the fight with Godfrey until Godfrey went low. Sure Godfrey was up by a little, but this fight shows Carnera could fight someone with size.

Who wins here depends on the distance of the match. 12 or more, I'll go with Willard.

Regarding Carnera's chin, it was suspect vs. punchers for sure. For whatever reason Carnera doesn't get credit for having a lot of heart.

That is true Primo had the heart of a lion and he proved it in the Louis and Baer fights...he kept getting up

The Godfrey fight is the closest thing we have to proof of an opponent tanking for Primo ... Godfrey was manhandling him with the right, hitting him at will ..it was a joke ...

Primo did have an incredible heart ! No question about it.

Some people have suggested Godfrey tanked lots of fights, was always fighting handcuffed or fouling himself out. It's been suggested he was a victim of always having to lose to white fighters.
I'm not so sure. Maybe he was just another big lazy, overweight frontrunner heavyweight who was quickly disinterested in long fights. I've see thousands like that.

Curiously, Leon See who originaly made the alegation of Carnera being involved in fixed fights claimed that the Godfrey fight was among those that were on the level.

It could have been a Bowe Gollota situation.
