Moldcott made Marciano look silly for 12 rounds, and for a good part of the 11th looked to have him going while fighting in postholes himself (it's really sad how far gone his legs were in those last rounds)... Could a prime, fresh and slick Chris Byrd, not opposing a specimen of brutality like Ibeabuchi but a middling heavyweight with not much more than heart, finish the trick or even win a landslide decision as Joe was on the path toward? Thoughts, please.
Lol this is a novel idea. I would figure something like Byrd vs Ike. I just depends on how soon? Rocky stops him in 8 or 9
Unlike Moldcott, Byrd wasn't walking in postholes by the 8th. Prime Byrd was young and spry and had a decent set of pins that would last the duration.
Certain style s will trouble certain fighter s more than others .And I'm thinking Byrd's style gives Marciano fits ! Chris had a good chin to be honest to so im not seeing Rocky clubbing him to defeat .Marciano struggled against movers and not many do it as good as Bryd .His lack of a killer punch doesn't affect this as such because he was so damned awkward .I just see Marciano really being made to look bad here ,unless he can find a punch /Punches to nail him and hurt him ,then i ts Byrd W 15 Marciano .
Tomorrow s thread will be how wait for it Michael Nunn decision s the Rock.what a bum Marciano was. He was no Tyson"i
I think Byrd was a level above Lastarza, bigger, slicker, more durable, and he possibly hit harder. Lastarza 6' 184.75lbs . Byrd 6'2" 215lbs. In their second encounter , after taking an early lead, Roland began to fade around the seventh round , but went into the 11th before being stopped. I have to think Byrd would improve on that.
Ribs. Marciano smashes his ribs in. Cuts off lateral movement. Probably eats a bunch of straight lefts on the way in. BTW did Marciano ever fight a southpaw? I know he won anyway. Just wanna see how.
Agreed. Byrd wants an outside fight and to play the feint game all 12 rounds. Rocky will not oblige and walk through Byrd's punches and turn it into a close quarters physical fight. And the mistake Marciano will not make that so many Byrd opponents did was headhunt. Rocky will not headhunt on this guy and actually you could call it bodyhunt. He will not bother to go upstairs aside from those oddball uppercuts he threw on the inside.
Byrd would last till the later rounds but eventually succumb. Byrd was an excellent fighter and top 25 imo but in a 15 rounder I don’t see him lasting. Slight chance he could get a decision in 12. Marciano was no Tua and cut off the ring like no other.
Think this fight plays out similar to the Moore fight in that Marciano will have to keep punching at a high rate and hit him everywhere to wear him down. I do like the matchup and think you highly underate Marciano’s style and solid corner.
