These two guys are past their best(I think Rua will never be himself again)
Chuck due to his age and injury
    Rua due to injury

    How would it play?

For me it would be a 50/50 fight

Shogun was an offensive beast, but his strengths offensively rely on the same things Chuck is very good at countering.

If you have wild offensive strikes, Chuck was great at stepping back and timing a great counter. Shogun was very good offensively, but was very wild and out of control sometimes. He moved half hazardly which is just what Chuck wants. You saw how Wanderlei hesitated to initiate offense in his fight with Chuck..

Other aspect of what made Shogun so effective was soccer kicks. He was, and likely is a master at this aspect of MMA.

Some spots where Shogun would be dangerous vs. Chuck would be in close in the thai clinch. I also think if Shogun wanted to fight tactfully, he could employ a leg kick that would make Jardines lower body assault look absolutely PATHETIC. From here, he could take away a good bit of Liddels power and dominate distance, a good spot after he softens up Liddel to the Legs for a few rounds would be in the thai clinch.

Shogun certainly had the tools, but I've never seen him fight a very tactical fight. I've always seen him either go bonkers with wild offense, relying on takedowns and subs if that doesn't work. Never seen him actually use different aspects of his offensive skills in a tactical manner. IE disecting fighters with leg kicks for a few rounds.

Because of this, I have to say Liddel. But, I think Shogun easily has the tools to make chuck look like a baby seal in the ring. With minimal adjustment to his game, A prime Shogun could make Chuck look helpless.

    Great post
But some fighter are like that, they fight with their instinc, and if they try to change that, sometime it does not translate well for the fighter.

With steroids, maybe Shogun. Otherwise, Chuck via being way bigger and knowing his way around a cage (assuming this would be in the UFC).

Chuck Liddell seems to feed off that agressive Muay Thai style.

I think it would be like Liddell v. Silva all over again.

I actually do agree. Victory for Chuck

    Chuck has the skillz
We know the power behind that man is brain shattering.

IMO There would have to be a money producing main event, stacked undercard.

Do i have to mention why.... Dana White = $$$$$

I would favor Chuck, Shoguns takedowns need some work, and hes playing with fire standing with Chuck.

Shogun picks him apart with leg kicks Jardine style.
