Prime Cleveland Williams vs Jerry Quarry

    The Williams of the first Liston bout had the size, arm length, and speed to tag Jerry with the same shots he laid on Sonny. Would Jerry be able to take the shots as well as Liston did? And would Jerry be able to navigate though Clevelands advantages to mount his own offence, he was most often a counter puncher and that might not work in this bout.

    I'm a big JQ fan, but have to acknowledge that this is a difficult match for him precisely because of the Big Cat's combination of reach, hand speed and power. Also, Cleve could win over the ten round distance, and produced three tenth round stoppages over the course of his career. It would help immensely to have the footage of JQ-Mathis to evaluate this one with, as it was Jerry's most impressive win over a peaking super heavyweight.

    Cleveland Williams possessed the speed the other powerful men of the 70s lyle, shavers, and Foster did not have. One thing to think about.

    Please reference Quarry-Foster, Quarry-Mathis and Quarry-Lyle before discounting Jerry's chances against taller opponents. Cleveland Williams, while tall and rangy, is simply not good enough of a boxer or puncher to trouble a prime Quarry. Quarry all day everyday.

    I love all you guys but you are ****ing delusional.

    Who is the best guy Williams ever beat? Terrell once?

    Quarry beat Patterson, Shavers, Foster, Mathis and Spencer.

    This alone speaks volumes.

    Styles make fights... Me thinks Williams was strong and powerful enough to reach Quarry and dice him up pretty bad... Of course J.Q. has a chance also.....

    Foster and Shavers were truly devastating punchers. Patterson still had excellent hand speed. Neither of these attributes seemed to be effective. You needed to be relentless to take Quarry, or find him as Norton did, when he was injured.
