Who you got?? I rewatched this fight recently and it got me wondering... Did he catch a still developing Wlad at the right time? Or would Sanders speed and power a!ways be a nightmare for the big man?
everything at once. Corrie was dangerous to everyone, especially to people who did not like southap, were not very resistant and were quite weak in defense - Wlad. who cannot fight at close range - Wlad. Additionally, Wlad was still developing, he wanted to give up too quickly, he was still too inexperienced. But out of 10 fights, Corrie would have won maybe 1 and then, after 2005, probably none, even if he had been in the prime himself.
Prime Klitschko beats him, in fact, 37 year old Klitschko beats any version of Sanders IMO, better technique, footwork, distance awareness, more tools and ways of setting up punches.
LOL@you So after 42 faaking fights he was still not "Prime" ? You should stick to synchrorized swimming, female , prefered. Flash in the pan Sanders will always be a problem for WK the first 4-5 rounds, size, southpaw, very fast hands, true KO power and WK's glass chin. Proof ? WK never re matched Sanders and never pursued it, he let his brother do the business..................and even that fat out of shape Sanders hurt VK like he was never wobbled before...............the same shot wopuld have put WK kiss the canvas and it would have been dejavu again.
I'm surprised so many people are picking Wladimir I think Sanders is always a nightmare for Wladimir and Sanders finishes him again early within the first 4 rounds. It's not like the Brewster or Puritty fights where Wladimir was dominating both fights before he gassed Sanders absolutely obliterated Wladimir from the first bell. No version of Wladimir has got the chin to deal with the early onslaught of Sanders and he wouldn't be able to clinch his way out of trouble either. The same punches Vitali took off Sanders would of left Wladimir in a pile of heap on the canvas.
This. Sanders was a crappy stylistic matchup for Wlad because he combined speed, power and accuracy against an average chin. Wlad controlled fights with his jab and footwork, but Sanders had the means to get the damage to the target first. Clinching Sanders would have 'worked' to stop the onslaught but the problem is that hitting and holding only really works when you are landing first. Also, that wasn't really 'prime' Sanders. Sanders at his prime was much more mobile and boxing-oriented. By the time he fought Wlad he'd fallen in love with his power and had gotten used to blasting guys out of there. I think Wlad would have done better against 'prime' Sanders who was more concerned with boxing effectively than putting a hole through people. Small irony there.
Prime Wladimir with Steward against 29-30 year old prime Corrie… I got Wlad by late stoppage or UD after Sanders makes a good account of himself. Now prime Wlad (I’d say the Chagaev version was the best) against the rejuvenated “Meh **** it I ain’t got nothin to lose” guns blazing Corrie that stopped Wlad in 2003??? 50/50 for me. THAT Sniper was his version of ‘Tokyo Douglas’ imo. Just ready, confident and zoned in like never before. I mean they both are arguably Top 5 ATG punchers so both their chins would be at high risk. Corrie with the speed advantage. Wlad with the technical and corner advantage. Strength goes to Wlad. Composure under fire goes to Corrie. Distance management to Wlad. Fun fight. 50/50. I could see it as another fight where Wlad has to get up a couple times and weather a few storms before taking complete control late and catching Corrie with an atomic straight right for the KO. And I could also see Sanders just setting a nasty trap and jolting Wlad’s chin while not letting him off the hook.
