IMO has a great shot of beating Mayweather. I'm talking about the guy who demolished Judah. Anyone else feel he could have beaten Mayweather at the time? Castillo gave Mayweather bloody hell and I'm sure Cotto could use the blueprint Castillo laid out and execute it better with Cotto being physically superior. Cotto was fast, great body puncher and good power. Man he was a beast the way he just wore people down. Anyone else feel prime Cotto gives Mayweather hell and possibly beats him?

Castillo was a better fighter in his prime than Cotto. But yea, Cotto has a good shot at beating Floyd but let's just say that at even odds i know where my money's going.

Cotto gets beat in a boring wide decision 9-3, 8-4. I really like Cotto, always have and always will, but he doesn't have the physical gifts to compete with PBF.

Definitely more competitive before he took the beatings from Margarito and Pacquiao, but I've always favoured Mayweather in this match-up...but Cotto would most likely have his moments.

Castillo was a more relentless fighter who went in and just threw punches no matter what he hit and they were aimed mostly at the mid-section, Castillo really did nothing spectacular in that fight aside from putting pressure and throwing punches, he rarely landing a flush shot and never hurt Floyd and that was a 135lb Floyd.

Cotto likes to place his punches and likes to box more, he wouldn't waste punches like Castillo did, Miguel works at a slower pace and is easy to hit, he's a very good body puncher but Floyd's defense would more than likely nullify that, Zab was giving Cotto hell in the early goings and everyone knows Zabs a front runner and tires late and those low blows didn't help.

Cotto at his prime barely squeaked a decision against Shane who with some good counters forced Cotto to retreat and turn to boxing off his back-foot, with Cotto's shaky chin and his leaky defense i would expect Floyd to win a very easy UD with sharp counters and lead left hooks, Cotto's good but he only dominated guys he was supposed to dominate he had close fights with Shane & Joshua and lost to Margarito and Pacquiao the best name he dominated was a 4 or 5 round fighter in Zab Judah.

    Easy win for Floyd.

Well i'm not going to get into who ducked who, i never heard Cotto mention Floyd not wanting to fight him, nor did i ever hear Cotto call Floyd out, just because Floyd didn't fight lets say Alfonso Gomez doesn't mean he wouldn't beat him easily.

    No.

No version of Cotto would have beaten Floyd.

I felt Mayweather avoided the time and it was a fight people wanted to see but he probly would have won a close but clear decision. He would have probly won about 118-110 against the version Pac fought.

I think the Cotto that fought Judah and Mosley would have done relatively well with Mayweather. Mayweather isnt the type of fighter to really trouble a 147lb Cotto, Cotto is troubled by pressure from durable, powerful and strong opponents that will put him on the back foot.

That being said, Mayweather is a great boxer, period.... and even though he doesnt fit the mold IMO of what troubles Cotto, his overall greatness at everything and just elite boxing skills makes it so that doesnt really matter.

But Cotto brings with him underrated speed, decent skillset of his own, a very good jab, and heavy hands. He would have been one of the best fighters while in his prime that Mayweather has ever fought.... period. That speaks for itself.

I think Cotto would compete on equal terms with Floyd early.... to be honest. I think Cotto would have some really good moments and I think he would trouble Mayweather here and there early on, but as the rounds pass, Mayweather will start to close the gap, adapt, turn it up and I think he finds the gear he needs to start getting the better of Cotto.... who IMO can let fights slip away from him against elite opposition, which is another reason I think someone of Mayweathers calibre will start taking control down the stretch.

    just IMO.

But I def dont see the whitewash that some would have it. I think it would be 7-5 or 8-4 for Mayweather.

Would be rooting all the way for Cotto though. War Cotto.

Cotto is a wasted talent, once promising, mediocre trainer, never developed any further past his first 15 or so fights.

I hate to say it but 'prime' cotto gets overrated a lot. He is a nice guy so I see why hes got a lot of fans but there are so many other fighters in the last 10 years that were much better than him at welter. His best win was a close decicion over mosley, which made him become unofficially the top guy, what was his 2nd biggest win? stopping judah? everyone has stopped judah. A close, lucky decision over clottey?

Wulda bn an awesum fight n I believe Cotto had wt it takes to grind out a punishing win...

Mayweather as awesum as he is never really took the fights that wuldve made him as great as he could have been...and I believe this was 1 fight that couldve proved Floyds mettle

But as every1 knows I'm biased in my prediction...

    WAR COTTO!!!

Cotto was always too hittable to beat Mayweather. And too basic.
