The version of Tyson from the 1st Holyfield fight vs. the version of Demsey that slaughtered Willard. Your opinions on that.

I guess Dempsey has the edge on agression, speed, and a huge stamina advantage. Tyson has a huge advantage in strenth + better counter abilities. Tyson showed good durability in this fight. So he won't get knocked down from just 2,3 blows. Well past his prime, i still assume Tyson will cause trouble with his mass and style. Can Dempsey really handle him? Back him off or box him backwards? Or is Tyson just too much for him?

    Additional Quastion:
What if Dempsey had trained more scientifically? Let's say he had gained a moderate 13 lbs and started the fight with 200 lbs without losing his quickness. Would it make a difference?

That version of Tyson was still good, but was he good enough to beat Dempsey then? I kind of doubt it...

Tyson too big, still fast enough, takes a 185 pounders best shot well enough to absolutely destroy with his still awesome power a modern either slightly big Light-Heavy or Small Cruiser. Whichever takes your fancy. That’s why weight divisions are there. Especially that great a difference in weight. And don’t forget. By 90’s standard Tyson was a ‘Small’ heavyweight.

    I agree with this.

Who do you guys think was faster? Dempsey is crazy fast in his prime.

Dempsey's technique was average at best if he were to fight in modern era. Tyson would slaughter him

Dempsey runs all over him, too incendiary.

Just like Mike had been, not too long before 1996.

Comparing this particular versions Dempsey has faster hands and more explosive attacking + better cutting of the ring. Despite Tyson had still way better body movement. Tyson is still ring rusty, since he gave up boxing in jail and has just fought about 10-12 minutes vs questionable opponents after his prison relase. Thas why the routines and the automatisms are not yet back.

I'm not sure about this outcome, but i'm pretty sure Dempsey has more tools to stress Tyson and would show much more resitance than most of other compareable sized men like Spinks or Marvis Frazier. He also had much more quality than all of Mike's past prison opponents before Holyfield (Seldon, Mathis, Bruno, Mcneely).

Would you call Holyfield a great fighter? analogically great fighters don't have to headbutt to get the advantage
