If a fighter loses credit for beating guys past their prime should he not be returned the same credit for staying on top past his? If being past prime is an excuse for losing then what does it mean when you keep winning after 35. If these guys were as good as him being past their prime would not have stopped them from winning, considering it has not stopped Floyd. Finally if beating someone who is past prime is less impressive or not relevant then why even fight after 35? The fact is prime or not, great fighters like Floyd and B-hop are good enough to keep winning past their prime. So if oscar and Shane and Cotto were past their prime when they lost to Floyd I say it is no excuse. If you are too old to be at your best then retire. Also there should be a line drawn between past prime and completely washed up, see Mosley for example. When Floyd beat him he was past his prime but still had a flicker of his younger self, when Alvarez fought him he was just about done and many were calling for his retirement.
Prime JMM was 11 years ago 11 years on and he still provided us with the most Epic KO of our generation He dared to be great Something Mayweather didnt care about
how did he dare to be great? by fighting Pac 4 times or landing a great shot? He is great by the way one of my favorite fighters.:bbb
Of course prime matters. Floyd is not past his prime yet. Hes still got it mabe a tad slower but his timing relfexes and defence are still as good. This is what we are going to get if alvarez wins o floyd was past it lol bull****. Ali was past it vs leon spinks and every fight after it . Holmes and berbick. Berbick wouls get destroyed by ali in his pomp and holmes would lose too. Camacho would never beat a prime duran or leonard. Marciano wouldnt have beaten a prime louis and tarver wouldnt beat a prime roy . It matters
glad you put that 2nd sentence in there, totally changes the way ill reply to your post well, he dared to be great by moving well outside his comfort zone. Juan Manuel peaked at 130-135, anything he achieved beyond that was surplus He still dared to take on arguably the best boxer of our generation at a weight far above his comfort zone And he did that for Pacquiao, ending up giving us the most iconic KO of our generation Mayweather and Pacquiao may have been the most famous, but Juan was the one taking on the cream of the cream, and taking on both these guys who refused to give our era its dream match
Well you have a prime for a very short period Tyson late 80s Ali 1967 Pacquiao cotto-margarito Floyd hatton- Marquez You have one in a million genetic freaks like Hopkins that can just stay great for a long time, but even hopkins is a shadow of his former self
And in regards to jmm He was always a timing specialist, so it makes sense he's stayed around,... But he loses all credibility with that roided up body
