Duran was hard to hit by mediocre and slower guys, but when a guy was fast he was easy to hit and they beat him easy enough. A lot of guys say well Duran did not fight well moving up. Well then why did he fight so many tuneup fights since 1978 when he was still a lightweight? Speed was his weakness, and when he fought a good guy with speed he was rather easy to hit. He did have a good chin , and the one guy who was able to knock out Duran with power and speed was Hearns. Which is no insult. It is easy to say well Duran would knock out Floyd easily ,but whenever Duran fought a guy who was exceptional with speed who fought the right tactic he lost easily. The proof is in his resume. Look at Leonard,Benitez,Hearns.

Duran is perhaps the most overrated fighter here at ESB. He's 1-2 against SRL has a worse resume but is considered the better fighter and better ATG ranking. In most eyes he can do no wrong. I would always pick an elite slick boxer over Duran because he can't deal with hand speed and movement. We've seen him beat there's a blueprint on how to beat him that works. PBF hasn't been beat there's no blueprint. To simply say PBF would get KTFO is foolish. Especially considering PBF has the type of style that has shown to beat Duran.:deal

I think it's flawed logic to use a prime SRL at 147 to compare a fight between Duran and PBF at 135. The power between the two is significantly different. This is a very important aspect because speed alone isn't going to stop Duran, you also need a healthy dose of power. I have to believe that Mayweather would have to actually fight at some point as opposed to run, and when that happens it's the beginning of the end for Mayweather.

In terms of skill sets, Duran is simply at a higher level. Defensive is about equal, speed to PBF, power to Duran, determination to win in a fight, especially a brawal? Duran by a mile.

You need to watch a lot more of Duran before saying anything like that son (you have to be young to even utter this comment) . Watch him against Barkley and tell me if Mayweather would have been standing at the end of that fight. Duran was a master at avoiding punches while in the pocket and firing back. Far better then Mayweather iin that department. As I think about it more it's probably a disservice to Duran to call them equal.

You, my friend, are an idiot. No man in history has been able to stand in the pocket and make someone miss better than Lil' Floyd. Ask Phillip N'Dou. Floyd Mayweather's defense is so much better than Duran's was, its ashame for Panama.

We'll see from the responses who's the idiot. Duran didn't get to be a top 10 ATG (top 5 in some people's eyes, even seen top 1) by not having any defense. How are are you? cause I personally think your age, (and post count) is showing.

I predict you're going to regret your comments, cause I've seen them both fight in their primes. In fact I became a boxing fan primarily because of Duran and Hager, and I can't imagine Mayweather going the distance againt Hagler under any circumtances.

You are really obsessed with my age man. I'm 20 years old. Duran had 119 pro fights. I have 56 of them on tape/DVD. I have seen more than enough of Duran to clearly see that his defense was nowhere near that of Floyd's. You just sound like some old fart.

A lot like Carlos Baldomir!:patsch

One of the worst statements I've ever seen on this forum which is going some. Duran was a multi-dimensional fighter and a great one at that. Comparing him to the one dimensional plodder that was a fortunate world champion is laughable.

Duran's defense is his sturdy face and chin. He accepts punches for him to throw his . . . that's why PBF is gonna be ****ed.

The first fight between SRL and Duran should give you a clear view of what Duran is. He matched SRL punch per punch.

PBF has a much better defense? Well yes . . . but will his defense win him the fight? NO

Well you just sound stupid to me. I'm being polite when I put it down to age. As I said watch Duran - Barkley and tell me Floyd would have won that fight with a straight face.

I never compared Roberto Duran to Carlos Baldomir. I compared a Mayweather Jr./Duran fight to the Mayweather Jr./Baldomir fight, stylelistically. Stop putting words into my mouth.
