Ali also used that same quote about Greg Page. So again Ali's opinion really doesn't mean anything. Henry Cooper also knocked him down and so did Sonny Banks. I never heard him mention anything about their power. Shavers landed numerous flush punches on Ali and could only wobble him.
Incredible story. Show me the interview where Ali stated Shavers hit him the hardest then show men the video where Foreman or Lyle landed there best punch against Ali. This never happened. Foreman threw wild punches trying to take Ali out in rage and his lack of respect he had for everybody at that time. You act like Foreman was landing his best punches and Ali just shook it off. Against Shavers Ali came into the bout out of shape because he didn't respect Shavers like he did Foreman. He got hit flush by Shavers because of a combination of Ali not taking Shavers seriously and Shavers not having the ego of Foreman where he would just throw 1 punch trying to knock you out. In any case Ali wouldn't know who hits the hardest. He would know who hit him the hardest but as I said unless he got hit wit the best punches from Lyle, Foreman, Cleveland Williams, Liston, Shavers ect he wouldn't know who the hardest puncher is. Also can you understand what you are reading? I guess not because I just put up a link of a fight who fought both Foreman and Shavers and got knocked out in 2 rounds by them both. The link and video shows him changing up his story to benefit him.
My old buddy Randall Tex Cobb agree with Ali that Earnie was the hardest puncher ever. He said If I fought anyone who hit harder than Earnie I'd have to shoot him LOL After their fight they remained friends Earnie often visited & stayed with Tex An interesting story told to us by Tex's wife at the time Sharon was. She worked in the music industry in Nashville & had written a rap song She got Tex, Earnie & Michael Dokes to record it. Her friend loaned her the studio & musicians . She said Michael & even Tex got it down pat but Earnie was struggling so they took a break. In the next studio Waylon Jennings was recording & he asked Sharon what was going on She told him. She said " Would you come over & help him tell him what he's doing wrong"? Waylon said " I love you to death Sharon but if you think I'm going to tell a man that could wreck this studio with his bare hands he's doing something wrong there aint no way " lol They finally got it down wish I could have got to hear it.
Great story. I was lucky enough to meet Tex a few times and had a friend who knew him very well. I want a copy of that recording!
Many fighters claim Shavers hit them the hardest. Ali claimed Shavers hit him the hardest. Talk to sparring partners such as Scrapiron Johnson who have been in the ring with Foreman, Frazier and Shavers and what do you hear? SHAVERS hit them the hardest. That's enough evidence for me to conclude among the three Shavers was the hardest puncher. Tell me buddy boy....where is YOUR evidence? You have NONE.
It's time to dismantle the myth of shavers, in fact I think several fighters hit harder. With a single shot i think that 90-91 Foreman, David Tua, Lennox lewis, Wladimir Klitschko hit harder, and guys like Mike Tyson, Tommy Morrison, Frank Bruno, Max Baer did hit around the same. Tyson being a puncher himself was bigger, heavier, faster, more accurate, so it is very hard to believe that shavers could hit harder
Dismantle the myth of Shavers? What are you 15 years old? First show everyone proof of your personal and very uneducated opinion. There is history behind Shavers punching power. Everyone who fought him and sparred with him whose words are documented are the testament to just how hard he hit. Shavers was a hellacious puncher with significant snap in his punches. This snap in his blows is what distinguishes him from Foreman. Frazier really never knocked out anyone (or knocked down) with his right hand. Joe gradually wore his top opposition down over many rounds rather than the blitzkrieg kos Shavers was known for.
you are really boring the hell... even in 2016 you can't take a different opinion, you repeat the same reasons like a parrot 200 times ,(reasons that all we knew much before than you). and anyone here is more educated about boxing than you, so please.. ignore my comment ****ing molester boring guy. the funny thing is that you are the classic ciber rat you never trained boxing in your life and of course i know much more than you about this sport specially the 70s era, so what the hell are you talking about? don't be ridiculous clown
