Interesting matchup. I would go with Spinks 6-8 times out of 10. But, if Shavers catches Spinks the same way he caught Lyle, Ali, or Holmes, it is lights out for Michael.

Spinks can easily outbox Shavers but the question is can he do so for as long as the fight lasts? If Earnie connects with that right hand then it's over. Michael may be able to outbox Earnie but I can't see him stopping him.

Earnie Shavers beats Michael Spinks by a come from behind knockout/technical knockout.

I went with Spinks by decision, even though a stoppage win later is possible. Shavers’ colossal right hand would be a threat though.

Why not ? Shavers has lost to similar sized guys and he is no Mike Tyson

Not sure Spinks’ bad knee can take the kind of workout it’s going to get trying to avoid those mad rushes of Shavers. He’s going to constantly be backed up and spend all his time on the defensive.

As other posters: Shavers always has a puncher's chance, but it is Spinks' fight to lose.

I think Shavers would definitely be dangerous early. Spinks might give away the early rounds and let Shavers tire himself, after Spinks breaks him down stopping him in 8-9 rounds.

Shavers by KO, Spinks is overrated as a heavyweight.

I'd back a Spinks fairly close decision - he was a much better boxer than Shavers.

However, Shavers can defo KO Spinks though.

Shavers did do well vs a prime Young in their 2nd fight who was a defensive master dropping him and earning a draw.

He also stopped Bugner early who was defensive and a hard man to stop.

I think Spinks could outbox Shavers but I'm not totally convinced on Spink's durability at Heavyweight and if he gets caught it might be curtains.

I see this. Spinks just wasn’t enough of a heavyweight to beat a big puncher who wasn’t coming off years of relative inactivity and drink.

TBH I highly doubt Spinks stops Shavers. It is doable, but probably means getting close and personal; which is a risky proposition versus Shavers.

IMO Spinks plays it safe, using his superior skills to outbox Shavers while snipping his way to a victory by UD.

I came down off the fence and picked Shavers by KO. Spinks is of course the vastly superior fighter, but styles, man……..styles. This is wrong for Spinks.
