Dominated? Not what I saw, what I saw was an overly tentative Lewis. Also you could argue that he lost the rematch, although I had him winning.
To anybody who says Holyfield was not intimidating needs to get the left side of their brain examined! The man was very intimidating, even in the big fights he had, you just had to look at him and think FCUK THAT, the man, even when folk were fearing his death in certain fights, predicting he would be carried out etc etc, he just bounces around in his corner with a smile on his face as if to say, you are getting hurt tonight!!! Prime for prime, Holyfield beats Lewis, possibly by late KO or stoppage, Tyson Knocks his asre out. Lewis for all he has achieved was a great fighter, but is left with a reputation that he waited until the "Elite" were a little past it before taking them on, the VK fight proves that after beating fading MT and EH he thought he was above all. He got the shock of his life when VK gave him hell, and he realised he was now past it.
Holyfield represents a lot of the admirable qualities boxing fans look for from a fighter. Lewis, in contrast, never excited in this manner and is negative and boring in comparison. In a popularity contest Evander wins hands down. When it comes to winnability at heavyweight I just see Lewis as superior overall. Other than chin and heart I struggle to find areas where Holyfield compares favourably and there is without getting into the size disparity. I actually suspected it was American homerism at play but noticed that a couple of the most pro-Holy posters in this thread are brits. I love Holyfield and think Lewis is a tit, I want to believe…what am I missing?
Holyfield by decision. He would outwork Lewis. I would also favor Bowe and Tyson to beat Lewis prime for prime.
I consider that pseudonym to be fairly strong evidence *against* the proposition that the actual person behind it was named Evander Holyfield. Do I have to explain why?
A prime Holyfield would have got hit by Lewis' jab and right hand a lot more than the slightly faded Evander that fought LL twice, that EH fought in spurts and was more cautious than he was in his prime. Lewis too big, skilled and powerful in this one. UD win.
Holyfield was just 3 years too old to pull it off when they actually fought. I do think holyfield would neet a little extra bulk to beat Lewis, he would have to come in atleast 210. But he showed he had the power to seriously hurt lewis with single punches, and a younger Holyfield would have the handspeed and activity to land them frequently enough to either stop him or make Lewis cautious enough to win a decision
Holyfield's hand and foot speed in his prime is under rated. It would pose problems for any version of Lewis.
I remember both fights very well The first fight was an absolute day light robbery and a farce of a result. It was embarrassment for boxing. Lewis was completely dominant and completely outclassed Holyfield. He won 9-10 rounds on my card but only got a draw. Holyfield was just too slow, and too small to be competitive against Lewis who was dominant but didnt take any risks. The second fight was very poor and Lewis allowed Holyfield to work more and allowed him to be more effective, but he still won the fight clearly by at about 8 rounds to 4. The cards in this fight were about right. However the rounds were closer than the first fight.
