We saw how Charles out boxed a past prime Joe Louis in 1950, but what if he had to fight a circa 1940 Joe Louis? Would Louis stop him?
I think Louis would have to stop him. Charles could win here if he fought a stick and move type of fight.
Yes imo . In his autobiography Louis said he thought he would have stopped Charles in about7rounds ,if he had been prime.
On a side note Louis fought at light heavyweight as an amateur. He even sparred in the gym with Eddie Futch who was a lightweight when they both were amateur boxers.
I think a prime Charles had even more tricks and moves to show Louis. At their respective primes I would guess Louis would win a very close decision
It should be noted that in their 1950 fight, Louis jab was still good enough to find Charles. Louis just couldnt set up his combinations and deadly right hand like he once could
I think that there is a good chance that the Louis of the second Walcott fight would have stopped him. Charles took care of business very convincingly, when he actually fought Louis, but his performance does not scream "this is a guy who would have done well against prime Louis."
Louis busted Charles up badly when he lost to Ezzard. His face was all swollen up. In his prime I think Louis would KO him. Ezzards gameness and boxing abilities would get him to the 8th.
