Not enough film of a prime 175lb 1946-1948 Ezzard Charles out there. If people saw those films, they would be dazzled. Charles was a once in a generation type of talent when he hit his peak
Hi man did you ever saw Ezzard Charles in his prime? I'm a fan of his boxing but unfortunately the only prime charles fight is against lloyd marshall in low quality Can you describe a little about his fighting style, moves etc? thanks in advance
I view Charles as top 5 ATG light heavyweight. One thing that always bothered me was the lack of film on great fighters. When this happens, you have to lean on the historians of the time who saw them live, or saw the films that vanished. For whatever reason Nat Fleischer and Charlie Rose did not place Charles in their top ten at light heavyweight, but had no issues giving fighters in the 40's and 50's ( Marciano and Robinson ) spots. You could say: 1 ) They were biased toward fighters from 1900-1930. I think this is likely, but the very best in any decade should have been rated from 1900-1970 Or 2 ) The names on the list without film were also truly great, perhaps even better than Charles. Plausible.
