Prime Fedor vs Current Overeem

i think this fight will happen within the next year and you'll see Overeem get KO'd.

all the muscle mass in the world isn't gonna help his chin.

 

even right now fedor will beat oveerem
and i would say werdum would beat him too if oveerem goes to the ground

 

Prime Fedor convincingly beat prime Nogueira and prime Crocop, so I think he would handle Overeem with ease... even though if they fight this year Overeem may win. The Rogers fight made me think that Fedor is now clearly past his best.

In MMA Fedor for certain. Overeem is no slouch but he's ground game doesn't match Fedor's and Fedor is bound to take it to the mat. Overeem certainly has a strikers chance though. Was interesting to see that Spong was still able to rattle Overeem pretty bad. Although Reem recovered to do the same to Spong and win the bout dominantly.

 

I think now it's pretty even.

Fedor prime VS Overeem now I'll say it's 70-30 in favor of Fedor.

Alistair has a puncher chance against Fedor, but I always thought that Fedor respect more punching power then a submission threat. He will be very very careful against Overeem, but once it's on the ground he will feel more secure.

 

I also think Overeems striking defence would not work in mma that well.

Fedor isn't really any different now to lead me to believe that he isn't still in his prime.

Fedor would be a pretty sizable favorite.

 

Do you really think the 2004, 28 year old Fedor would have had to eat some GnP from a fighter of the calibre of Brett Rogers? I don't think so, JMO.

 

For 25 sec...and he didn't even hit him clean, while that time Fedor was trying to go for an armbar. He got reversed while attemping a kimura.

We've seen Fedor on his back against Coleman and it was no big deal.

No Roger doesn't have the same wrestling skillz as Coleman but it's not like Rogers took Fedor down.

I'm honestly tired of people always bringing back the Rogers fight for 1 jab and 25 sec on his back !

The way poeple keep bringing this fight it's like if Rogers mapped the blueprint for how to defeat Fedor...

 

Well good point, my wording was unclear. I do think he has a different fighter then he is now, but I think he is just as good now.

Back then he was very much a grappler, nobody thought about his striking very much, and if they did they thought of it rather poorly. He wasn't nearly as sharp as now, the punches were all either swinging for the fences, or more usually just how the way he would set up getting his overhooks or underhooks, and bodylocks for his throws, trips, and other takedowns. Even when he started to land more punches, he was never thought of as a big KO striker, even to the point where people didn't think he was born with natural power that could KO people.

Now, he is still based in grappling, but will his striking has gotten so much better; he is much sharper and more accurate, and is knocking people out, which is probably due to being more accurate with the power he has always had.

The old Fedor would likely have just gone directly for the takedown. After all, Fedor went for the takedown as a top priority with in the Nog fights even though it meant spending the fight in Nog's guard, which was seen as an impossible way to win a fight.

 

Overeem has been known to quit in fights (2nd Kharitonov) and get knocked the **** out. Fedor is tough and can take a big shot. He will have an advantage wherever the fight goes, I think.
