No one has a say? I didn't really watch Vargas that much so i honestly don't know. I didn't even vote in order to keep the poll unbiased.
Um I would have to say vargas, I picked UD. The vargas that fought Winky and Tito was better than any 154 pounder out there right now and Pac aint ever fought at 154. If Pac went and schooled martinez then maybe I could see picking pac but otherwise I cant.
Pretty intresting matchup here if Pac can handle Vargas superior strength and fight a disciplined fight I think he can pull out a close decision.. If he tries to take Vargas out or gets in a shootout he might end up getting taken out. Dont give me that **** about Vargas chin, in his prime it wasnt that bad,he would have the slight advantage in a slug out and big advantage in size and stregnth, Although Vargas had good speed Pac is much faster.
You forget that the Vargas that did fight Tito and Winky lost badly to Tito and really did lose to Winky as well. I like Manny here, Nandos chin has always been a question mark to me.
Although he was beat up bad in the first and 12th, People forget that Vargas fought his way back into the fight with Tito, he was still very competetive in that fight. Also the fight with Winky was close, Winky had the lead after the mid rounds but i thought Vargas did good enough towards the end to even things up. I actually scored the fight a draw.
Vargas late TKO or UD If we are talking prime here.... anywhere from campas to tito, Vargas is too big, too strong, too skilled, too unrelenting for IMO Pac to win..... I think Vargas closes the gap, punishes Pacs body, cuts off the ring, and outfights/muscles Pac in a close fight that sees Pacs speed and power give Feroz some problems throughout, with also his speed of foot. Vargas could make it an easier night by using his boxing skills, circling, letting pac come to him and being precocious (like he did against campas, ike quartey at times, tito at times) I think his problems start if he goes in trying to bull pac, but i still think hes got enough to beat pac even doing that, at 154.... but he just made the fight a whole lot harder and i can even see him getting wobbled perhaps (remember, this is a vargas that had never been down in his LIFE we are talking about and whos chin was solid) Vargas would circle, measure, blast in and bull pac, with pac bouncing in and out or range trying to land combos, but just like he was able to get hoya there, vargas would eventually get pac there, and even if he didnt (pacs more mobile then hoya, fair to say that maybe hes able to stay off the ropes) Vargas would meet pac coming in and lay down damage with his left hooks to the body and his IMO most effective punch, his straight right hand. Vargas could box off the back foot, be the aggressor, throw effectively to both the head and body, and imo he would just be too big and too strong, and could pretty much walk pac down. Lets remember that after Cotto dominated round 1 with his skills, he kinda abandons them after that in an attempt to outfight/outmuscle pac in a shootout, and although he ultimatly gets broken that way, from 2-5 it was a back and forth battle..... Fernando Vargas is 10x's better at fighting that way then Miguel Cotto is, (cotto being more effective being patient, mixing effective body punching in with his boxing and using his jab) Vargas would bully pac toe to toe (although yes, he would take his fair share of punches) and when done would still apply effective pressure and push pac back, then circle and set for the next salvo. Seeing Cotto being able to war with Pac using almost entirely strength, size and aggression for 3 rounds like he did also shows me that a prime Vargas would have eaten manny up (imo Vargas was also a better body puncher then 'todays' cotto) i say 7 rounds to 5 in a fight where Pacs speed of hand and feet give nando some problems, and he really starts to win rounds big around 8,9,10, where nando slowes down a bit and pac starts peppering him with combos, but nando would turn it up in the 11th and 12th, throwing punches into the 90's (like against wright when he thought he was losing) and seal the deal, that is assuming Pac could take the punishment he would recieve throughout all 12 rounds. Vargas late TKO or UD. IMO
This the same Pacquiao who's team is skeptical about him fighting Yuri Foreman at 154 because he's too tall ? Vargas would win in fantasy matchup land, but considering the negotiations would force him to come down to 149lbs and fight in a large ring in reality, Pac wins . Oh yeah, both would have to take USADA randomized blood testing. Pac for allegedly juicing and Vargas for actually juicing .
Anyone who thinks that Manny would have a chance is on more crack than roger mayweather , today Vargas would easily be the Linear 154 Champ, he was big for the weight an excellent amature (bronze olympics), but was shot by 25 after fighting trinidad at 23 and in only his 21st fight.
Vargas was a "good" fighter at best, but he was very hyped, nothing really special, and i used to say the same about Pacquiao but he def proved me wrong,Vargas never did..But 1 thing Fernando did have was POWER and him being the bigger man, makes this fight interesting, but i didnt vote,I feel this fight being 50/50 cause Pac has never fought at 154 before, but i still say its a toss up
