nono No Vargas was a very good fighter and could have been great if he was managed a little more carefully.
Thats right. Vargas could box when he wanted to and I think he was rushed a bit too much in his career by Shelly Finkel. I watched a lot of him at the Duva gym when he came out of the olympic games and him and Vernon Forrest used to go at it pretty good. Vargas was a good boxer even though Forrest seemed to get the better of him they both were very impressive. Vargas was a 5'10 inch strong fighter that would have been too big and strong for Manny.
Pacquiao has never fought at 154 so I can't say for sure, assuming that when he goes up he loses a little bit of power I would pick Vargas by SD/UD.
Who the **** would dream this fight up? "Prime marvin hagler vs prime willie pep at 160?" What the **** dream match is this?
So Roach, who knows Pac better than anyone does not want Pac to fight Foreman, but some of you STILL pick Pac over Vargas???! unbelievable.
Vargas has always been a HW living in a Middleweight body. People must know he killed himself trying to make "ANY" weight class he has ever fought in, In every fight.
Not really, he was just a guy who needed to stay fit more to maintain his weight. He was young his entire career and should have kept himself in better shape on his downtime between fights instead of hanging at the tamale stand like he admitted. Look at 6'1" Hopkins, he stayed in the gym year round his entire career and always made 160 easy. Once you have downtime in your adult body it get bigger and the weight gets progressively harder and harder to take off especially when you have bad genetics to begin with.
I think that Roach doesn't like the Foreman matchup do to his handspeed and boxing skills, not his size. It's easier for Roach to just say "too big", as opposed to "too fast". That would sound lame. The only time Pacman struggles is against very good handspeed. Foreman has speed in spades. Also, I would pick Pac over Vargas. Mainly because I personally think Vargas is hugely overrated. What are his defining wins? Ike Quartey is nice, but he didn't dominate by any stretch of the imagination. Otherwise his best win was a disputed decision against a somewhat green Winky Wright.
i get the impression that those who pick pac don't know much about vargas. vargas is a huge 154 that almost barely fit in that frame at times. big, with solid skills and good power. it;s too much for pac to overcome. from a true pac die hard fan
