didn't James hit him with a good shot in their fight? can't remember the round
Ruiz hit him pretty flush in their fight (best i can think of is the first round)

nothing really memorable...but he's been hit with good shots before. You don't go an entire career without tasting something. Hell tarver hit him with some good shots in the first fight. Sosa hit him with a good shot along the ropes that HBO commented on saying Sosa briefly had him stunned. I don't know about all that but Jones has been hit before.

I asked what savage punchers he fought in his 50 plus fight career. SRR fought savage punchers, Pep fought savage punchers, Ali fought savage punchers, SRL fought savage punchers.

What savage punchers did Jones fight while he was moving his way through weight classes? We know Del Valle put him down but he wasn't a power puncher. We know Tarver iced him and he is not a power puncher. We know Johnson KOed him but he certainly is not a puncher especially at 175 he is feather fisted. The Russian Popeye KOed him but he is not a savage puncher. Green isn't a power puncher either.

What devastating punchers did Roy fight while moving through all those weight classes?

James Toney and John Ruiz were both considered to be big punchers for Roy, who moved up in weight for both.:deal

Ruiz had not had a KO in almost 5 years prior to the Jones fight. And only had 3 'stoppages' (one was a mercy stoppage by the referee against Oquendo as the crowd was booing the whole fight and they were doing nothing but clinching each other so the first sign of action he stopped the fight:rofl) in 11 fights after the Jones fight.

John Ruiz is not and never was a puncher.

James Toney was not a savage puncher either.

I am looking for savage punchers Jones fought in his career. We know there were some availiable to him but how many did he fight?

Did or did Ruiz not hurt iron chinned Holyfield? When you add in the size advantage he had over Roy, that makes him a savage puncher to Roy.. That is why there are weight classes in boxing.

At the time there was a big question if Jones could handle Toney's power as well.

Now taking flush shots from HW doesn't equate to being able to take a punch. If only he had taken it from Tyson

easily Roy. Jones went up against history and won. Floyd just goes up against at best some good/very good opps albeit in several weight divisions as did Roy.

The TS also said Prime Jones.. I have no reason to believe Roy didn't have a decent chin in his prime.

Prime Roy had a much more aura of invicibility than Mayweather. After he schooled Toney, he was being compared to the very best of all time. The revisionists like to look back and rewrite history like they knew he had a glass jaw all along.

Well as we have discussed his daddy sure didn't want him fighting punchers. There is a reason for that. Make no mistake about it.

How long did his daddy even manage his career? As far as I know, only one statement was made by Roy Sr, about not wanting to put a very young Roy in with one of the best punchers ever.. It is not uncommon in this sport for a young fighter to be protected for a while.

I know they were estranged but they did talk and he listened to his dad. See Buster Douglas fight etc. Which to me is odd because by all accounts Big Roy was a taskmaster and raised Roy up rough and tough. Seems he would want to see what his creation could do against the best. Not saying Jones should have been thrown in there right out of the Olympics with savage punchers.

I do wonder how Roy's career would have went under Steward as we both know he was a great trainer and motivator but also a damn good manager and knew how to move his fighters the right way. I am betting Steward would have had Roy in some of the big fights we didn't see and I have no doubt Roy would have won more of them than he lost. We just didn't get to see them.
