    15 rounds

    Who wins and why?

Unique match-up I just thought of, I think Patterson's hand speed and peek-a-boo style could cause a problem for Walcott early on but I believe Walcott is clever enough to time a good left hook on Patterson for a KO.

Could see Wlacott catching him late, but Patterson was very fast and skilled

I voted Walcott, but Patterson may do him on points. Tough call

Patterson could seem to take rounds with spurts of handspeed and combinations, but Walcott was like a shadow, and with the punch he packed, a good timing could spell end for Floyd.

It has to be done like every 6 months, it’s like a boxingforum24 tradition at this point.

I favour Walcott, he’s got the size and strength and Patterson doesn’t really have the tools to deal with that, if Walcott fights as he did against Charles when he beat him, he surely beats Patterson. He’d use the jab to make Patterson duck and take risks and he’d time the uppercuts, and then when they’re up close, Walcott can handle him, grab him to neutralise him and bully him and push him off to stifle his forward momentum.

Patterson can’t do anything with him at range, he also can’t up close as long as Walcott grabs him, the only chance Patterson has is in the mid range exchanges where Patterson could beat him to a hook.

Walcott shouldn’t move excessively, but also shouldn’t pressure recklessly, he should look to hold his ground, jab and time the head movement of Patterson and make sure his feet are grounded so he can take advantage of Patterson’s mistakes, if he moves a lot and tries to fiddle his way through the fight, Patterson’s speed may allow him to beat him to the punch and steal rounds without doing much, so Walcott needs to be somewhat aggressive and become a boxer puncher in a way and look to set up big punches.

    Walcott knocks him out late.

Walcott was not consistent. He lost a lot of fights to inferior opponents and there's reason to believe he laid down in his rematch with Marciano. I think there's little doubt that he did.

If he was not honorable, then he wasn't dependable. Nobody ever accused Patterson of throwing a fight. I'll pick Floyd.

Patterson was quite a bit better, more consistent within a fight and between fights. Head to head, just a much better fighter. KO9.

Walcott had the savvy and sneaky tricks to crash an unexpected one, right on to Floyd's chin as he's pouncing.
Patterson hits the floor but jumps up quickly.
But he's all over the place and it's like Berbick against Tyson all over again.
    Walcott wko 3 Patterson

Walcott split a series with Maxim and from what I've read Charles probably deserved to win their series 3-1. I think Patterson is quicker and has more of a workrate than Charles or Maxim did. He was much more consistant than Walcott in his career. I think the smart money is on Patterson. I mean look at what he did to Archie Moore, that was punch perfect.

Floyd hit harder, was faster and had better defense than Walcott, who I've said was a difficult night at the office for anyone. Floyd may take this one as easy as he did against Moore. And as usual, this thread shows how Floyd is criminally underrated here.

This is a tough one. Walcott was very skilled and gave a good version of Louis and a prime Marciano all they could handle and he knocked a prime Ezzard Charles senseless.

But I still can't for sure pick him to beat Patterson.

Nope, Patterson the guy who had the fight of his life Sugar Ingo? Better than the guy who was robbed by the “house fighter” Joe Louis? Who beat Charles, took Marciano to the edge and cleared out his division of all worthy challengers? “Journeyman” keep that in your back pocket Seamus he WAS a journeyman he became a contender with some losses and finally a champion. JJW in 1940 as an opponent type he was 24-10 on a mostly black fighters circuit were they were bumping one another off or he was taking dodgy deals from screwy managers… then in 1944 in his comeback how’d he go after a 4 year hiatus? Remembering rankings are done by end of year results… These are his opponents from 44-45 Joe Baski (4) Lee Q Murray (6) Curtis Sheppard (3) 46-47 Jimmy Bivins (3) Lee Oma (3) Tommy Gomez (6)

So Foreman should be held in similiar esteem? he lost to a guy who lost every 3rd time he stepped into the ring? Patterson > GF I know you rag on Ol JJW but you know the sport too well to not know he was the real deal.

Uh, not George KO'd his opponent 9 out of 10 times he entered the ring... and won another 10 decisions. Math, my friend. Don't abuse it if you don't understand it.
