Tough one, Patterson definitely wins above LHW.

I think Patterson probably catches Roy, but I'm not sure he'd stop him at 175, and I voted in the poll without reading the OP. I think Jones would stop Patterson at 175 now I'm contemplating it.

Jones. Just as fast as Floyd but more mentally there.

I hate to say it but I fear Floyd would be hurt over a long distance fight, Roy dropping him several times over the course of the fight till he's finally stopped, on his feet, about the 11 th. Not to say that Floyd's uncompetitive but Roy cancel s everything out. Only Floyd's speed of hands and fighting heart keep him in the fight for as long.

I’d take Floyd on the basis that he’s more proven at the weight

What guys would you put forward that make Floyd more proven at 175 than Jones?

As long as he wasn't weight drained I'd take Floyd here.
Roy's usual advantages in speed wouldn't be as apparent and I think Floyd would catch him.
Of course Floyd's chin wasn't exactly the best but it was heavy hitting heavyweights like Liston and Johansson who put him down, although i'm sure he'd be shook up by Roy I think he'd come through it and take Roy out.

Floyd, Roy would be competitive for a while, but Patterson hit hard as a heavyweight, and his power at 175 would be crushing. Also Ali, said Floyd was the fastest fighter he fought. Patteron ko in 5-8.

Makes for a much more intriguing match up at light heavy. Patterson was far from the finished product at this point, so the thread title is a little bit deceiving, although he was still incredibly talented even though he was so young. I think I’d be backing Roy at light heavy
