Again?? 4 Real?? SRL TKO, see SR. fight, Floyd does little different goes out with heart and I'd respect him a lot more!!!:yep Truth is? Floyd wouldnt take the fight!! The SRL vs TH fight:yep ? NEVER ****ING HAPPEN!! Floyd wont face the toughest of his time, let alone ALL TIME. Wish he did!!
How can he prove you wrong? In what way? What way do you consider him better? Do you believe he had a greater career and ranks higher as an ATG? Or do you simply think he was a more skilled fighter and would've won a matchup between the two? Explain.
Robinson had better power, and was a better body puncher. While Leonard likely had faster hands from the footage we've seen, we haven't seen much footage of a prime Robinson at 147, as there is little. Robinson threw better combos, though Leonard's may have been faster. Robinson went body-head better, and threw with more variety in his punches, more power as well, which is part of the reason why Leonard threw faster, as he didn't commit with every punch like Robinson did. A much better mover? Watch more Leonard fights, the man stood his ground just as much as the next guy. He could move sure, but so could Robinson. Watch Robinson's fight with LaMotta on film(the 6th one), he shows excellent footwork. Both showed great movement when it was called for, but while Leonard's was flashier, it wasn't neccessarily more effective. As far as the smarter fighter, I don't see it, considering Robinson was the king of rematches and figuring out an opponent's style, even when past his prime.
I can't say I agree with you Mayweather's defensive manuvers have been seen in the past. His uncle Roger and father, Floyd Sr, have used the shoulder roll. James Toney has as well. I have also seen Floyd use similar manuvers, at times, as Nicolino Locche and Pernell Whitaker. Both of them, however, were better defensively. Offensively, he hasn't reinvented the way it's done. Roy Jones has a better claim than Floyd does. And how do you presume Floyd will be seen as the GOAT, even if he loses once or twice? He certainly hasn't beaten the competition necessary to place him up there with Robinson, Greb, Armstrong, Ali, Duran, or Leonard. Even if he beats Cotto and De La Hoya, this wont change.
Leonard already faced the shoulder roll when Leonard beat Floyd's daddy. He would beat the son who learnt it from his dad too.
Sure I think Leonard would win, but some of you all are just exaggerating because you don't like Floyd! There is no reason to assume Leonard would be able to stop him. Floyd has never really even been knocked down (unless you count being his glove BARELY touching the canvas in the Judah fight - a fight he immediately after went on to dominate. And him taking a knee after breaking is hand VERY badly does not count against him. Leonard may have more power than Floyd, but you cant really compare their handspeed. So who knows about this department? Leonard could put combinations together faster, but who is to say his handspeed is really much better than Floyd's? But that doesn't matter. Floyd's defense is incredible, Leonard isnt going to land enough to stop him. Get real people! And yes saying Leonard IS much bigger is a VERY valid argument! Floyd started his pro career at 130. And has gotten as big as ... 150! Basically he's never fought heavier than 147. Leonard has fought as high as super middleweight! Even thouh Leonard was only 5'10", he had broad shoulders, long legs.. he was a big welterweight. We just don't consider him such because he fought against Thomas Hearns who of course, is sort of 'the' BIG welterweight. But I just don't see why people are saying Leonard is going to just starch Floyd. Floyd is too sharp for that. Peoplle are talking about Floyd like all he has is some defensive skills and 'decent' handspeed. He has SUPERB defense, SUPERB handspeed, good power, an excellent mental game (his sense of timing is just perfect. If its POSSIBLE to land his right hand lead, he will see the opening and land it), etc etc. His conditioning is fantastic too. He would be able to handle those 15 rounder that Leonard fought in.
I take it that Sugar Ray Leonard symbolizes the welterweight champion of the 1980's whereas Floyd Mayweather Jr. symbolizes the lightweight/welterweight champion of today. This is why there is some disparity based upon age on these boards on their opinions between these two boxers. But is Floyd the ultimate symbol of the lightweight/welterweight of today much the same way that Sugar Ray Leonard was back in the 80's? Isn't it true that Felix "Tito" Trinidad holds that distinction for today's fighters?
