Exactly. Bowe, at his best, was a formidable opponent. And this idea that he was "afraid" of Lewis is utter nonsense. The fight didn't happen because there was more money to be made elsewhere. Lewis couldn't draw flies to a funeral in the U.S. in '92. Prospective fights with Ray Mercer and a Holyfield rematch looked a lot more lucrative.

Prime for Prime, Lewis wins this by decision if he keeps the fight at a distance which I think would happen and doesn't let Bowe get inside and do his work.

If this happened when it was supposed to, like 92-94, Bowe would win. He was in his prime while Lewis was still pretty green and had trouble with pressure fighters with good chins like McCall.
If they had met in 92/93 it would have been Bowe's best chance. That was him at his absolute best and would have been up against a version of Lennox who, whilst a physical beast, was a bit raw and not yet at his peak as a boxer. I would have made that 60/40 to Lewis on the grounds that Bowe was plainly intimidated by him. The Lewis of the Golota, Holyfield 1, Grant, Tua, Rahman II or Tyson fights (i.e. late 90s-early 00s) bullies any version of Bowe. Of course thanks to Bowe and his ducking we never got the chance to find out...
That's pretty much exactly how I feel too.

But then again, are we assuming that the fact we are talking about a 92/93 Bowe versus a 99-02 Lewis removes Bowe's misgivings and judging it on a solely technical basis, or would it always have been a factor? Irrelevant anyhow I suppose, I think prime Lewis always beats him, but Bowe would have had a decent shout had they met in 92/93.

Or Michael Dokes or Jesse Ferguson :yep:yep:yep:yep:yep (he says with something in his eye). Come off it, Bowe was terrified! You could tell in his reaction when they met head to head, with Lewis congratulating Bowe on his title winning performance and saying he looked forward to coming head to head with a superb champion and then Bowe coming out with the old "**** off man you a *** my momma could take you out". One showing respect, but total confidence. The other, the empty bluster of a bully who comes head to head with someone his own size for the first time!

If anything his chin proved to be weaker than Lewis's. Hilarious considering he was viewed as having a concrete chin & Lewis as being glass jawed.

First time I've ever noticed you making a sensible post, Mr Boxrec.

Lewis's chin was always highly underrated. He was easily as tough as Bowe.

Ditto- Bowe was kept away from punchers like the plague earlier in his career and when he did get hit on the chin he fell quickly, like Holy 3 and Golota.

I have to put also one think that Lewis afraid to fight real champions in that time. He wait his chance and after he dominante. Lewis is the one of the best smarter fighter ever. he wait his chance and retired in the time. Thats it.....

Once again you show you idiocy and lack of knowledge. That entire stunt was orchestrated by his manager, not Bowe himself.

As to the question, I'd actually take Bowe.

    :-(

Yeah because they were all queueing up to face Lewis.

Tyson paid $4m step aside money and fought Bruce Seldon instead. Bowe chickened out.....

Holyfield was the only one that manned up.

Why exactly, because he went toe to toe with a smaller man and won? Bowe was a good fighter, but he was easy to hit and could be hurt and dropped. A young Tyson against that version of Bowe would have knocked him into the middle of next week. I believe Lewis in top form would be too much for Bowe. He was just too easy to hit, which is what lost him the gold medal, the Holy rematch when Holy opted to outbox him, got him battered twice by Golota and probably ultimately why he's ended up as a nutcase.

I'll take Lewis by tko sometime after 7
