I think bringing up Jones's stoppages at 35 years old, when he had dropped down from Heavyweight to Light Heavyweight is a little unfair. The man had been P4P king for a decade, and age and dropping down too much weight finally caught up to him. And I assume when we're discussing this match up were talking prime versions.

The way I see it Jones is too dynamic and fast for Bivol, and whether or not you think Jones had a suspect chin. Bivol is not a big puncher and the few fighters who troubled Jones in his prime, were awkward fighters like Griffin, or Southpaws like Harding, Del Valle, Bivol is neither of those. Hes a technically well schooled fighter with a very good jab, but I don't see Bivol's style working against the speedy/dynamic Jones. For me Jones wins a pretty clear decision over Bivol.

No the guy that got the decision over Jones in the olympics would have done nothing in today`s pro game.

Roy Jones was too fast and strong. He'd knock Bivol out before he saw him enter the ring. Jones was either #1 or #2 p4p fighter of the 90s, a generational talent like Mayweather and Pacquiao in the 2000s, one of the best that's ever been. Don't get too hyped on Bivol before he's really done much.

This would be a great fight. I was a huge fan of RJJ in his prime and am a fan of Bivol today. As far as who I would favor, I keep going back and forth. It’s a tough because of all he contrast in styles. Roy was super flashy and Bivol is so fundamentally sound. Also, I saw the great and the bad performances of Jones and it’s not fair to compare that guy to Bivol because we’ve only seen prime Bivol. I have the same problem with Ali because he fought way past his prime.

I like Bivol because of his fundamentals and footwork but I’m sure I’ll rewatch a few of Roy’s old fights in his prime and flip flop my opinion. It’s a shame these guys were not in the same era. Same with Beterbiev. I think Beterbiev Jones is an even more interesting fight. Beterbiev is a monster and would present an even more dramatic contrast.

This would not be an easy fight for either guy. Also, I’ve been wrong over the years on actual fight picks (shocking!) because you never know if a great fighter takes it up a level during a big fight or if he has a flat night. I never expected Duran to fight Hagler as well as he did (mainly because of size difference) and never expected Forest to fight Mosley as well as he did. These things happen and make boxing exciting.

What is really interesting about RJJ vs Bivol is that Roy is one of the few freaks of nature with the speed and athleticism to bypass Bivol's excellent distance control and defense.

It's very hard to bet against the Roy that schooled Toney and ko'd Virgil hill with that body shot against anyone.

That said, I think Bivol has that 'ice cold' technical confidence in what he is doing that could potentially make things interesting, but would have to go for Jones decision.

Bivol is a conventional fighter, albeit an excellent one. This type of fighter is tailor made for Jones.
Jones would stop him in 9 or 10.

Bivol outboxes RJJ easily. Bivol by KO in round 10.

People are being emotional, saying Roy would win. But the truth is, Bivol is a far superior boxer than RJJ. They know this themselves, but out of respect for Roy, they're not admitting it.
