This is interesting- the vast majority of responses here have ben in Foreman's favor, but he's trailing in the poll.
Foreman. Anyone coming towards Foreman pre-Zaire was walking into near certain death. And for all the crudeness of his punches, young Foreman always seems to have one hand back, ready to throw if someone gets by one punch. Similarly, for all his slowness, he could be surprisingly light on his feet... see some of his early fights, he's positively bouncing around and hopping out of the way of punches. Tyson bobs and weaves his way right into a Foreman uppercut, and that is the end of that.
i like foreman i think he could use his jab to keep him off and just send a bomb that tyson wont see and put him down and out
Tyson's chin is the most overrated thing on this board The guy never even finsihed a war. If its a war which it would be with Foreman Mike would go down like always.
this was almost to close to call i call it 52/48 in tysons favor with tysons suspect chin i can see him getting ko,d by big foreman ,but if he slips and bobs to perfection tyson would eventually drop foreman .imo but its a awsome dream match
While I know you're probably just trolling, I figure I'll say this make sure no one misunderstands: I'm not necessarily saying that Tyson would get KO'd with one shot, but one shot could get him into trouble and it would be a major advantage for George from there on out.
This would be considerably a hit and miss venture... A fight with a duration of approx. 2 rounds. If we are talking prime/prime, (i think we missed Tysons peak anyway) the basic implications would be a KO from either end. If Foreman landed one of the unpredictable/unorthodox bombs, Tyson would be in Noddy Land. I suggest they are unpredictable/unorthodox, due to the ease of Foreman destroying the Frazier and Norton. Both men had been around the traps long enough to manage an orthodox fighter very, very well. The speed and power, combined with the evasive craftiness of Tyson is a credit to him in the first part of his career. He slipped, ducked or dodged, and countered better than any single H/W through time. His power, driven through his legs and waist was incredible, and this would have been too great a test, even for Big George, had Tyson engaged accordingly. I will express one thing, Foreman would have been unable to keep up with Tyson over 5 rounds. The end result would remain in the hands of the first to land the better combination, as unorthodox as it may have been.
Nice quote but Tyson wasn't a swarmer. Foreman-Tyson would be a great fight, if I could pick 3 guys to fight each other just for entertainment it would be Tyson, Foreman, and Liston. I pick Tyson here but Foreman's big uppercut and his massive power would make it a dangerous fight for Tyson. But the difference here is speed and skill in my opinion. Tyson's speed is so superior to Foreman, and combine that with the fact he was hard to hit while Foreman had arguably the weakest defense out of any HW ATG, and Tyson wins it by KO around 5. Tyson was never knocked down or even came close to being dropped/hurt by a single punch (Holyfield 1 but it was a body shot and a balance KD) It took a sustained beatdown to take out Tyson, even when he was very, very much past his best he took Lennox Lewis who has ATG power 8 rounds. Attrition type fighters that break opponents down and/or have the ability to consistently land on him and accurate punchers are the type to beat him, not punchers.
Tyson by mid rounds stoppage. Tyson was by far the superior athelete, combination puncher, foot and hand speed, boxer and his defence was great before he started to rely on brute force. People talk as though Foreman was a massive guy, when he wouldnt have any size on Tyson, except for height. Look when where Foremans chin was when he threw his uppercut, he hung it out in mid air. And if anyone can honestly say one of Foremans heavy(but powerful) arm punches would land before one of Tysons then i think your crazy. People say Foreman is all wrong for Tyson because of what George did to Frazier but Tyson is nothing like Frazier apart from size. But Frazier was predictable in his approach and Tyson wasnt until Rooney left. In my eyes its Foreman, with his slow clumbersome punching and his mummy style (as Ali put it) who is made for Mike.
Great post. Foreman looked giant because his big fights were against Frazier. He'd have several inches in height but who didn't against Tyson, and weight wise Tyson is nearly equal. It isn't Foreman-Marciano here where Foreman towers over his opponent and looks like a man against a boy.
Tyson, way way way too quick! Power wouldnt decide this fight, speed and quickness would, and Tyson has more of this, at his peak, than any other heavyweight ever.
