Prime for prime I'd pick Roy Jones to stop Calzaghe.

The title holder who was considered one of the best technical fighters of the contenders for the belt at the time? The guy who went 12 with Toney, beat our own Ice Man Scully, lost a close Majority Decision to Steve Collins, etc? That guy?

I'm not really even bringing the issue of his chin up because of the KD from Hopkins, I just feel that overall people overrated his chin a bit. I think his ability to seemingly take a punch is more because of his defense rather than his chin. I'd argue that Mitchell rocked Calzaghe, though.. another fighter who I think Jones has greater power than.

Yah, do you remember that Thorton had a close fight with Steve Collins and also fought Sosa, Toney, and Eubank, with Collins and Eubank being title shots? This guy is a postal worker or bum to you? And you only hold Jones responsible for fighting him?

Is this the same Thorton who was ranked in the top 10 of Ring magazine for like 4 years straight? Yes, Jones should be penalized greatly for facing such a bum.

He was not even a full time fighter, he was a postal worker. Remember?

    Kelly. A garbage man.

He was a top 10 ranked fighter.

Glen Kelly was not a garbage man. That was Gonzalez, you know, the former Lineal champion?

Kelly was Jones mandatory for the IBF title. Unbeaten at the time. Next.

What's funniest to me is.. people actually degrade fighters because they have a profession other than boxing.

I don't know.. when you put into perspective it's really kind've amusing. I guess we should all rag on Holmes for dropping a close decision to a school teacher.

    My sentiments exactly.

I said before the Hopkins fight that I'd expect Jones to win a 9-3 type decision, possibly wider, with a flash knockdown from a right hand Joe didn't see coming. But I'd be confident in picking him to last the distance: just as tough as they come and he'd make adjustments too.

I read in another thread that your rating of him at 175 went way down after the Hopkins fight. Just how far down did it go?

    BTW, Farmy....

Many many fighters have other jobs unless they are world champions or consistantly at that level.

If Vinny Pazienza could last double that amount, I'm sure Joe Calzaghe could too.

C'mon now, it's not like Roy KO'd everyone early. Lesser fighters than Calzaghe lasted longer than that.

Also, if Douglas could stop Tyson and Rahman could stop Lewis, I don't see why Calzaghe wouldn't have a hope of winning. It just wouldn't be a good one and everything would have to go his way- he'd need the fight of his life, with Roy having an off night.

Needless to say though, Jones should be the heavy favorite. I'd be betting on a Roy UD or late TKO. A ref or corner stoppage is most likely.

It's not out of the question, but I'd go with Roy by wide decision.

He's top 20 H2H there at best, not sure just yet, how he does against Dawson could change my mind, it could have just been an off performance.

Against MW's-SMW's though, my status stays the same, he's the 2nd best behind Jones.
