Jimmy had just about had it,at top level, when these two fought in 1981. Greg was at his best. Supposing it was the 1975/77 incarnation of Young in there ??
I thought George Chaplin won both bouts with Greg. I can't see Page defeating a prime Jimmy in that scenario. Young was just the sort to spoil him as necessary to win. Stan Ward said Greg was fast, but not that quick, leading me to suspect that Jimmy wouldn't have great difficulty evading his shots.
The Page who hammered Tillis in '82 and schooled Snipes in 1983 out-points Young of 1976 / 1977.... MR.BILL:hat
Ali was shot after Manila, so he was absolutely not "ATG" in H2H terms when they fought in '76. Foreman was suffering from depression & heat stroke, plus he wasn't the same following his layoff & changing of trainers after Ali dominated, manhandled & KO'd him in Zaire, leaving him mentally scarred.
I know that they were both badly faded. I didn't say they weren't. But Ali was still an exceptional fighter and was made to look like a fool by Young. Young beat up Foreman, plan and simple. Landed right leads, jabs, and even great body shots. Even knocked him down. 77' Foreman was still an absolute beast. Just not able to cope with Young's skill and slickness. :deal
Well, Page was good but Jimmy Young...Why he was one of the best to ever do it! Blistering hand speed, foot speed and reaction time! Shotgun blast punching power! More skilled than any heavyweight champion to ever live! Chin like granite, will like steel, if the right hand lead don't getcha than the left jab weeel! Go ATGs!
I've seen the light. Hey, put up a Walcott/Young thread. I'd be interested to hear from the fools that think Walcott could out-cute JY.
Oh! The old Ali was shot and Foreman was depressed and heatstroked bull****. Why do you think Foreman was heatstroked? Trying to catch up with Young maybe? And getting countered all night maybe? And Ali wa shot? Funny, when anybodies bragging about Norton shoulda won their third fight, nobody mentions that. But anyways, Young did just fine when he fought Page in his thirties. Page was a real good boxer, so Jimmy would have to come in focused, and would school Page.
