Prime for prime. Jimmy Young v Greg Page

I always felt that Greg had the tools to handle Jimmy, but truthfully, we've probably never seen Greg at his best.Marty Monroe and Renaldo Snipes were arguably his two best fights, and even in them he had the occasional flaw.If Greg is at 220-225, I give him a shot of beating Jimmy, but most likely he come in disinterested and lose a somewhat close decision.

 

What I didn't like about the youthful, pre 1986 Page was, he bounced too much and flicked his jab from outside without ever really settling down on his shots... Right now I have a tape of his fight with Tillis rolling.. He's killing a listless James Tillis in 1982 Texas, but Page needed to let them power shots go while holding his own in ring center... As a youth, he carried 238 pounds pretty well, despite his jiggly tits jellying around...

Page held those hands too low to be facing and winning against a prime Young. Way way too big of an opening to be giving an opponent like this. When he punched he brought his hands back low and then lifted them up a little. Jimmy would land jabs and that sneaky right hand though that opening time and time again. He'd counter everything Page did during that window after any combo punching by Greg.

The only consistent shot I see Page landing is a right to the body when Jimmy covered up and wanted guys to expend energy. but it wouldn't be all that effective. Decision bout all the way & Mr. Page would be schooled by the last rounds of it, once he started to run out of gas.

 

Young would makr Page look sloppy and stupid. You'd be wondering how the guy could be a top ten heavyweight.

I'll take the Greg Page who dismantled Gerrie Coetzee over many heavyweights, including Jimmy Young. Page had something Young didn't, power.

 

Probs not even top 20 - the 70s was proper PACKED with brill Heavys. :thumbsup

 

I can not see Pagey beating Ronny Lyle, Buster Mathis, Jerry Quarry, Oscar Bonavena, Jimmy Ellis, Earnie Shavers, Joey Bugner or Maccy Foster Either.
Those men would be Champs before the 1940s And in teh 50s, 80s, late 1990s And 2000s.

 

I could see Page beating Mac Foster, Mathis, and possibly Shavers.The rest, no way, especially if he's not in shape.

 

Greg would destroy Leon with the first quick right he tags him with.But he'd rather play basketball, so Leon might escape with the win.

 

All I know is whichever one wins then loses to Ossie Ocasio his next fight. Two of the all-time inconsistent, undisciplined talents ever.

 

I would not buy this on PPV. I just wouldn't.
