calz is not a God defensive fighter, hopkins lose the fight because he didn't punch enough. Hopkins if he had more workrate and stamina not an average of 5 punches per round would have done more against joe.

lol:rofl is this the same as not trying to imagine hatton would get KTFO prior to his fight with mayweather? JT not getting KOed prior to pavlik? Have you imagined roy getting KOed prior to tarver?

Roy would have every advanage in this match-up. Calzaghe fights using his reflexes and speed- Roy did this too. But completely better in every aspect.. Calzaghe would have no advantages except for his left stance.

Prime for prime Jones by wide UD or late stoppage.

He is missing a lot... A few bricks short of a wall, few sandwiches short of a picnic basket, few brain cells short of an 8 year old analytical ability... You get the idea.

Seriously, some of the worst posting i have seen in a while. I don't think it could be any more riddled with blatant contradictions and just pure rubbish.

Your a nice guy for taking the time to respond to it. I wouldn't.

Your analysis is fair DP, even though i firmly disagree. Jones is the better boxer, with more handspeed, more power, longer reach, better combinations, and much more unothadox angles.

He is giving it away in pretty much every department, and would have a lot of trouble with Roys style. Joe would not cope well with someone who is a better boxer than him, which is exactly what Roy is. He isn't the sort of fighter that can provide effective pressure to break someone down, if he can't win from the outside.

Probably a good chance of going the distance, although i think Roy gets a late TKO victory. Those angles are very very hard to defend against. Roy earlier in his career was actually very effective against southpaws as well, and was much less gun shy. The complete annihilation of Bryd and the utter dominance of an undefeated Richard Hall are great evidence of that.

Try again. Defense is the ability to not get hit or take punishment. It doesn't matter how he accomplished it. What you are referring to is technique, not results. Calling it instinct is a reach of subjectivity that you can't define and therefore neither can I. Instinct tells you do to something, but not how to do it properly. There is a proper way to avoid punches in boxing and be in position to not get hit by the next punch. Jones was a master of that, and getting back in position. He also had masterful footwork.

Also, the technique argument has been debunked over and over. Reflexes enhanced his unorthodoxed technique and skills. Reflexes help you move out of the way of a punch, or roll with a punch quickly and recover quickly to counter. Reflexes do not however, allow you to know where a punch was coming from and how to avoid it and be in position to counter. That is a skill. It does not teach you HOW to roll with punches, just helps you do it. His speed enhanced his ability to punch, it didn't teach him accuracy or punch placement. It didn't teach him to adapt to styles or how to counter over the top of a right handed jab, or how to throw a picture perfect left hook. I could go on and on. But it's wasted breath.

BTW, you can talk about Del Valle. A one loss champion who's one loss was to the dominant LHW of the era prior to Jones and DM. A close loss at that. He dropped Jones, who was up at 3-4 and who then went on to dominate him the next round. If his chin was so bad, I think it would KO'd him. Not to mention, Johnson stopped him on accumilation, past his prime. Not one punch as you keep mentioning.

I always know when someone is a waste of time to debate with on the subject of Jones when they start talking about public servants and trash men. There were exactly two of those on his record that were publicly announced....the trash man was an unbeaten top 5 contender (ring and ABC org) who would later become champion by beating DM in Germany. So my guess? Good fighter....

I agree with this, and I hadn't thought of how Calzaghe's pride would be affected by the fact that he was beaten in his own game. A younger Calzaghe would definately not like it, and would make tons of mistakes - and therefore a TKO is not utopic at all.

Don't try, Reg. You'll just end up like Cotto will be soon against Margo: Road Kill. You're nowhere close to my level and you'll be forced to switch my avatar like you did in the past once you realize you can't hang with me from a debating perspective.

You're argument's a joke: You're fantasizing about a guy being stopped who's never even been close to being stopped in order to prop-up your flawed, no-chin would-be Superman (who just happened to be twice KTFO). And then when you start getting exposed for your paper-thin 'arguments' you retreat into a 'Oh, it's only about prime for prime' without even mentioning that you just, incredibly feebly, tried to talk about Calzaghe's flaws when he's 36 years old.

Stop. Don't humiliate yourself any more. I can run rings around you.

Roy Jones would never, ever stop Joe Calzaghe. That is complete idiocy and it is not a surprise that you were the one who said it.

If anyone would get knocked out should the two men have met during their primes, it would be no-chin, cockfighting, Glenncoffe and Antonio drilled that ass Roy "1-punch-KO'ed" Jones. Lou Del Valle, for God's sakes, put him on his ass, so you know Joe could. And once Joe got to that fine china that Antonio and Glencoffe found, there is no doubt that Roy's eyes could be rolling back in his head soon thereafter. Only one of these two men was one-punched KO'd, twice, and it wasn't Joe. Those are the facts. The age Joe was at while whipping Greatest Ever Kessler was around the same time Roid was getting his ass KTFO by Glencoffe. Or maybe Joe was older.

Don't waste your time with me, I will only send you reeling like a Tarver left hook to Roy's chin. You may rule this board but there's a reason I don't come here that much anymore and its because there's no comp. I'm a genius and was just written about in the New York Times. You're not and you weren't. Remember that, and save your breath lest I have to verbally KO you like you were Roid and I'm Glenn.

Yeah, I thought you were talking about Calzaghe:lol:. I really shouldn't post at this hour - seemingly I can't read, write, or make much sense. But when it comes to Roy, you cant judge him when he wasn't prime anymore.

The way Calzaghe comes running in, i see him getting caught while coming in and being stunned and RJJ finishing it shortly thereafter. It could happen in round 1 or 12 but anyone who tries that against a prime RJJ is asking for disaster.

If you honestly think Jones didn't have skills, you've either never seen him in his prime or you don't know a thing about boxing. No, he wasn't as defensively sound as Whitaker, or Mayweather, or Hopkins, but the man knew how to cover up, roll his shoulder, feint, and if a punch did conect, he had the head movement to take its effect off. Your saying his defense and his chin are ****. That doesn't make sense. If his chin is so bad, then he must never have been hit, not even once before Tarver. That of course would contradict your statement, meaning his defense is unmatched. Reflexes do count as defense. It's not just skill. I'm not saying he's a defensive master like "Sweet Pea," just he was very hard to hit. That's defense, and Jones had excellent defense, both from skills and reflexes. Also, his chin isn't that good, but just hitting him doesn't mean you knock him out. Joe's got a better chin, that's it. Everything else goes to RJJ.

Why is there all of a sudden "Older JC" and "PrimeJC" just because the only A+ fighter he ever fought (be it a 43 yr old one) made him look very amature at times.

There was no talk of "older JC" and "prime JC" after the Kessler fight just 6 months earlier! Older JC was the prime JC for near everyone then (or more or less).

Your only as good as your opponents let you be; it's pretty clear that a lot of Calzaghes opponents made him look a lot better then he really was.

Joe's a great fighter but hes no superhuman.

At 160 Jones was a beast....If the smaller Leonard who hadnt fought in some years could give Hagler all the problems he did a bigger Jones would beat him for sure. Monzon??? Please.

I agree about 175 I think that Spinks, Foster and Moorer would have been hell for Jones at 175. If he were to fight all three I think that he would have lost at least one, and most likely two.
