Sanders was never viewed as anything spectacular, you're being dishonest. Tua was the hype.

 

First of all, WK is not a natural fighter, his brother is. WK is a skilled and dedicated athlete but his work ethic not his boxing talent at birth got him to the top.

Turn the sound off for the following fights and you will see the light.


Did Louis, Marciano, Liston, Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson , Holyfield, Bowe and Lewis get stopped on their way up by a journeyman in a build up gimme fight ? Obvious answer, no.

Sander, another Journey man, what is his best win before the WK fight, a washed up ,never was a real Heavy , Bobby C ? WK was never in the fight, he got blasted by the same shots over and over again until the Ref waived it off, not a prolonged battle, nada, he got blitzed and looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

Brewster, a walking forward face first plodder essentailly duplicated Ross Purrity, he took WK's best and finished him off......WK CANNOT take sustained pressure in a fast paced fight.

Under Stewart he faced the strong but almost comical unskilled Sam Peter ,went life and death and pushed to the limit........insert Joe Louis in a 15 rounder in that fight and even his most ardent fans except Mendizzi will come to the conclusion WK aint seeing the distance.......if Caveman Peter can land wide telegraphed swings from the hips Louis's straight right in addition to the pressure and fast pace will turn his lights out.

The key to beat WK is to jump on him and make him fight not jab and grab.......the proof is in the pudding, all of his losses in his prime his opponents did not give him breathing room and he collapsed, mentally and physically.

 

Sanders' best attribute was probably his speed and punching power. I've followed his career since the start; he could really flatten guys when he sat down on his punches. Sanders started out as more of a boxer but as he got older and disinclined to do roadwork he began to rely more on his hitting power. I'd agree that he probably hit a fair bit harder than Galento et al. If you look at his technique he really whips them in and he made a habit of hurting guys that were regarded as durable. Iirc he sparred with Valuev and had him buzzing.

 

Sanders was a southpaw that was bigger, faster and hit straighter than Louis.

Brewster and Ross were as durable as all heck. They won by eating a shedload of punches that would have flattened 90% of other heavyweights until Wlad gassed out and was ready to pluck. I sincerely think that would be an awful strategy for Louis to undertake.

What I think would undo Wlad here, is his lack of inside game.

When Louis gets in close to him, he is going to try to grab him him, and that isn't going to work.

Louis did not need much room to load up.

 

Pulev is a guy adopts a fencing position and boxes from range . He didn't take it to Wlad , Wlad kept lunging into him because he didn't feel comfortable boxing him from the outside like he usually does.

Louis likely gets stopped if Wlad keeps using his size and weight to crush him every time he gets close. But in fair fight with proper officiating , Louis easily passes Wlads outward left and low hanging right arms to strike him with a swift right hand/ left hook combo. In his panicky state of duress he covers up which allows a great finisher like Louis rip more savage hooks into his body and head. Fight over.

 

so... Sanders is better than the best ATG HW ever, based on a sparring session with the worst HW champion ever?

Wlad's huggery has never failed him before. That said Louis' short little punches on the inside were something else; we can only speculate. I'd have paid big bucks to watch this one however it turned out!

 

Wow the nuts must have been out when this match was made? Wlad was 6'6 slow and robotic,his crushing power got him no where and his boxing IQ is also moot BC he fought after the 1970's.

He was basically a less effective Ivan Dragon who wouldn't even be ranked in Louis ever as long as the Billy Conn's were around to keep the 245 pound lumbering limited skilled giant in check.
