Just like to see how this match-up will unfold.

Barrera's worst enemy are fighters that have tremendous speed and can apply effective pressure, but most importantly they are great punchers as well. Guzman is everything but a great puncher, Barrera could box with Guzman, and brawl with him too.

    Barrera close decision

To get the respect of Barrera you better carry a big stick. Guzman has two fly-swatters holstered in his hips. Although Guzman has the athletic and boxing ability to compete with Barrera it probably won't be enough to get him the win.

    BTW, nice thread Morrissey!

Junior Jones beat Barrera in his prime (Barrera's prime was at 122, not 126 or 130) and was not a big puncher, his power probably being less than Guzman's. Perhaps the other fighters who beat him happened to have big punches, but that is not the sole reason they beat him.

At 122 MAB by KO 126&130 MAB by close UD..Was it him(Guzman) or was Soto too tough a nut to crack?? He hit him with some gret shots but Soto was never in danger of getting knocked down. Guzman needs to fight big names in the near future to make this thread worthwhile otherwise almost evryone here will pick MAB to win.

kg, the only persons who have beaten MAB were, Junior Jones2x, EM, PAC 2x and JMM. Among the 4 only PAC is a big puncher. EM and JMM are not that big a puncher. I think MAB's problems are with boxers who move as good or if not, better than him. Junior Jones was simply too big for him. First fight with PAC he got overwhelmed. When he faced PAC the 2nd time he was already faded. I think the prob with MAB, when faced with inferior opponents he stays in the pocket and trade but when facing elite fighers he tends to be less aggressive and box more.

MAB's style at 126 and 130 are entirely different than his style at 122. Remember, by the time he fought Pacquiao, he had been in the ring for 13 yrs or so, with a straight forward war like style. When he fought Morales, they traded continuously. It wasn't until later on that he became a tactical fighter. And Morales was actually quite a big puncher, especially at 122, which is his prime weight AND MAB's prime weight.

JMM and EM are all heavy punchers; they can certainly hurt and knock down people. They are not in the level of Pac, but they surely can not be considered as having below-average power in their hands.

Their punches were more than respectable enough that MAB did not trade with them more than he had done with them in their fights.
