Barrera is one of my all time favorites and Guzman is one of my current favorites, at 122 in their primes it's a pickem fight. It could go either way depending on how each of them decides to fight (especially Joan). H2H wise I think they're both ATG's at superbantam. I know people will say "who did Guzman beat at that weight?", but just watch his fights and you'll understand why he's the complete package at 122, just like Barrera was. On top of his ability, his power at that weight is extremely underrated. Who wins? I don't know. One thing is for sure though, they both would own Pacquiao.
I think Guzzy's power at 122 was rather great. Combined with his quickness and skills, he could have been an ATG there had he fought better opposition. Pac owns MAB, that is for sure, prime for prime, any day of the year. Guzman might own Pac, though it would be interesting to see how.
Surprised at the low vote for Guzman. I thought his good showing against Soto and Barrios, plus the hype that he is being avoided by both JMM and Pac, who handily beat MAB, would make this atleast an evenly match-up.
Prime for prime . . . no doubt MAB beats Guzman. Guzman is not even comparable to HAMED "the clown". :yep
Barrios won some rounds against Guz with his crude style, MAB would double those amount of rounds. Soto is nowhere near as skilled as MAB, hes a solid fighter but not the elite MAB is. MAB has too great boxing ability for Guzman, whos shots are too wide and really would not faze MAB at all.
Pac doesn't own a prime MAB, you can see this if you watch their rematch. A prime Barrera with great stamina/workrate, greater quickness/explosivenes/reflexes would pick Pac apart and control the fight without too much trouble. Prime MAB/JMM/Morales/Guzman all beat Pac. The Guzman of today stlll owns Pac and the JMM of today should still be able to outclass Pac and counter him all night. He's too one dimensional to deal with these fighters when they're at their best. Guzman and JMM don't need to be at their best though, their styles are effective enough to beat Pac past their primes.
Its a good match, but MAB has proven to be an ATg while Guzman has just proved to be a very good fighter. I would pick prime MAB to beat him.
People who will argue on Guzman beating MAB is implying that Guzman also beats Morales or he is better than Morales . . . think about that.
Yes? Is it hard to imagine Guzman beating Morales? Guzman is an amazing fighter. He's A level and his style/skill troubles JMM/MAB/Morales greatly.
All the 2nd fight showed was that MAB was afraid to try and win rounds and was content with surviving. If he did try to win some rounds he would get hurt. Pac beats any version of MAB. I pick a prime Morales to beat a prime Pac and prime Pac beats prime JMM & Guzman.
Yup for me it's hard to imagine Guzman beating Morales . . . prime for prime that is. Because if you can't hurt Morales and Mab these guys will walk over you. Both these fighters has power and can box. Saying Guzman is A level is HYPING. He hasn't fought the quality of opposition that will prove that.
Pac already lost to JMM if you scored it right, but maybe you don't consider that Pac prime. It's funny how you pick Morales to have the highest chance to beat Pac when he's H2H a little worse than Barrera and definitely JMM. JMM already beat Pac and probably will again. A past-prime Morales beat a prime Pac. Guzman will embarass Pac. Barrera would also beat him if you look at it. Pac is just too one dimensional for these fighters and his balance is terrible. They would all take advantage of his flaws and in their primes have the stamina/reflexes/quickness to beat him. If you can't see Guzman is A level then you're blind.
It's a hard question as their prime is/was in two different eras. At SBW Guzman had brutal punching power combined with great skills and in his SBW days MAB wasn't on his best yet. I'd pick Joan there. MAB had the best moments at FW where he became a great boxer. Guzman wasn't doing much in FW so it's hard to talk about his abilities there but at 126 I'd pick MAB as he was unbeatable there until he met PacMan. At SFW MAB had 2 losses and wasn't THAT quick or strong as in the lower classes. Guzman isn't that strong at 130 but he hasn't loss his quickness and skill level so at 130 I'd pick him to beat the SFW MAB. Each fight would be a close decision. But it's almost impossible to pick the winner "prime for prime", there’s no objective pick on that.
Of course in terms of punching power. He's a big fighter even at SFW but he just can't hurt his opponents with one punch anymore.
