i have seen a lot of fans here arguing for one or the other. i am an impartial fan here although since i follow other fighters. Prime for Prime, i would rank the fighters in this manner. 1. RJJ 2. BHop 3. Joe in terms of legacy/at the end of their careers( i am assuming bhop is at the twilight of his) my rank would still be the same. 1. RJJ 2. BHop 3. Joe your thoughts?
were basically on the same page on this but i am as ambivalent on this although i would have to admit that i had followed jones career a little bit more. how do you view calzaghe fans insistence on him being undefeated?
legacy, wise, i really have no questions on putting hopkins there. i was actually planning to put him on top but put jones in view of his over hopkins but i really go no problem of hopkins being on top. i know jc is retiring but some people seems to be getting carried away, and him being proclaimed as top 10 etc. even top 50 atg is a stretch for me.
Agreed. Prime for prime, i feel Roy was the best fighter of the bunch clearly because of his obvious hand speed and athleticism, though i feel Hopkins has taken the bigger risks and has the better longevity than them all. I think Toney should be included in these lists. I personally would have him in between Jones and Hopkins prime for prime wise. He was brilliant.
seems, we seem to be having some consensus here. in terms of legacy, whtether bhop or rjj is no. 1 is fine with me. i cannot just seem to understand about people over emphasis on calzaghe unbeaten record.
SURE, but let's just try that again!! ... Jones wouldn't stand a chance... not today, not in THEIR prime..
Prime for Prime I have 1)Jones 2)Calzaghe 3)hopkins but legacy-wise I have 1)hopkins 2)calzaghe 3)Jones To me the version of Hopkins that Calzaghe fought was a better fighter than the one Roy fought. Physically he wasn't of course but Hopkins was a so much better tactitian and a much more intelligent fighter at the time he and Calzaghe fought.
you have a valid point but do you really think that a prime hopkins wouldn't beat jc. he was 43 years old when they met. it just got me thinking if the fought, say 10 years ago, when hopkins had more gas in his tank, i think he could have handled jc fairly easy.
got really no problems with that since bhop seems to be the bigger fighter but RJJ did beat fighters physically bigger than him. he was fast and powerful when he made his run. stupid montell griffin fight but he did avenge with a savage first round knock out right. between prime RJJ and prime hopkins, i would say 48-52 at most. to say that rjj would have a 45-55 chance of winning against bhop would be ridiculous i think.
