you're one to talk...wladimir klitschko...:yep its a shame when people don't recognize true skill or haven't seen any of b-hops fights prior to 2005.
The way Calzaghe handled these guys when they fought I don't think either would have touched Joe. Especially before he had severe hand problems in 2001 or 2002. But sportswriters and popular opinion have a lot to do with legacy, so: Prime 1. Calzaghe 2. Jones 3. Hopkins Legacy 1. Hopkins 2. Jones 3. Calzaghe
Fact remains. Calzaghe beat both not in his prime. Get over it America you dont have the best of everything you have only the most and the biggest and the worst of people.
PFP head to head: Jones (convincing w over physically prime but a little inexperienced Hopkins, speed reflexes and power would negate anything hopkins or calzaghe could do)..................Hopkins (if hops could put a lil more offense together he'd have undeniably beaten 35 yo calzaghe at age 43)...Calzaghe resume: i'd say the way jones beat good (and many not soo good) contenders for his crown carries the day b/c IMO you cannot simply look at boxrec w/o considering how the victories came. Hopkins is right there considering how long he's been good and given his age. Calzaghe comes in last for me again - struggled a bit w/ some good not great fighters like reid and bika, had some great performances (including lacy) but you gotta factor in the manner in which some of his victories came (outpointing with the majority of punches being arm punches and slaps)
did you just say that calzaghe beat hopkins and jones when calzaghe was not in his prime but failed to mention jones and hopkins at the time - and just as importantly, the mental impact of a top fighter losing and ageing at a total age of about 83 when they fought calzaghe. i just posted a thread explaining what the difference is. you can one syllable it in answer or you can ignore it. it's your choice.
Legacy: 1.Bhop 2.Roy 3.Joe Legacy wise, joe and roy are kinda close, cause both faced alot of lesser oppostition but prime undefeated toney, a heavyweight, and green bhop slightly edges him. hopkins legacy is better than both clearly. P4P: 1.Roy 2.Bhop 3.Calzaghe Simply put, i don't a focused and in shape roy at 168 ever loses a fight. Bhop and joe c were great fighters in thier respective primes but i think they both lose no matter what simply cause they are human, when rjj is another breed of fighter, like a duran at lightweight. As long as he is not feeling bad about pazienzas broken neck, and not playing basketball, i think hes unbeatable. Bhop would also technically outbox cal like he did at times in thier fight, but his cardio wouldnt fail him.
Prime for prime: Jones Calzaghe Hopkins Bernard isn't done yet (nor is Jones for that matter). But most likely when all's finished, legacywise, Jones Hopkins Calzaghe
