When thinking about Lyle, footwork isn't the first thing to come to mind, but he did possess underrated footwork

I favor Lyle but Cooney always has that punchers chance.

Cooney best chance is to and try blast out Lyle early. Lyle survives some scary moments before coming on strong and hammering a hapless Cooney on ropes where the referee intervenes after 4 rds.

Calamity Cooney hits the canvas ala Foreman 1990. Get real people. He had no chin or defence. Against a sturdy puncher.

Cooney had that serious left hook and it was a danger. I remeber watching the 6'5 Cooney win the NY golden glove Middleweight title (I think he was a southpaw then it was a long time ago) then I seen him get stopped by one of the Davis brothers for the lightheavyweight title. You had to get past the Cooney left hook and remember he was only an 8 round fighter when he faced Holmes. If Lyle could take Cooney into deep waters prime vs prime he had a chance but Lyle was also easy to hit and not sure if he ever gets past the early rounds vs Gerry so it could go either way.
