I agree, that you really seems the case here. We are talking about prime James Toney at 168 (Barkley, Littles) not the dehydrated versions who fought RJ and Tiberi.

Toney was quick, extremely accurate, exceptional counterpucher, great defender and threw combinations. Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter himself but Toney was just the better fighter. I favour Toney by close decision as he tends to fight to the level of opposition.

    I don't belong to any of those two . . . but I'll pick Toney at 168.

I pick Toney at 168 all day long. Amazing skill, love watching his earlier fights, P4P a fantastic boxer. Throughout his 160 and 168 career he only lost to a prime Jones, that speaks volumes.

The smarter fighter who couldn't hit Hopkins cleanly when the 43-year-old version of Hopkins ran out of gas completely.

How is he going to land on a prime James Toney?!

Calzaghe has fooled so many people into thinking he was a skilled fighter because his comp was so weak. The fact is that when he met a guy with elite skills (Hopkins) all he could do was flurry and win on activity against a years past-prime fighter.

Put him in with a prime elite technician and he would be comfortably outclassed (hence why he never fought one). He just didn't have the skills or the quality.

Not even that arguably, imho he CLEARLY won the first fight with Peter. I'd LOVE to see JC try to duplicate that feat lol!

:lol: not calzaghe like? Theyre were 4 fights that he threw 1000+ punches. If that isnt the definition of high work rate I dont know what is.

Nunn was 6'3" and relied heavy on his jab. Joe is 5'11" and doesnt use his jab all that much, which means that Joe would have to be in Toney's range a lot more then Nunn had to be.

Yeah, thing is most of the time people that dont like the outcome of these polls always try a pull the race card.....When its really a matter of styles. Calzaghe is a pitty pat puncher that stands right in front of a guy. He has a decent chin, but I think his fights with well past his prime Jones, and past his prime Hopkins showed us that it was likely had he faced those level fighters a few year before would have likely been KO'd...A prime Toney was in that class. toney was a stronger slightly more skilled version of Hopkins who at 43 Cazlaghe couldnt beat clearly, and many felt that Hopkins won the fight.

My pick depends on whether Toney takes the fight seriously, trains properly, etc. If he doesn't it would be Toney on points. If he does then Toney by KO.

Pick em fight IMO. I slightly lean towards Toney but Calzaghe would give him hell.
