You left out the bit where Parker also got dropped by Whyte in the 9th. Even without the head clash, the absolute best outcome on the cards was a draw for Parker. He lost a close fight involving two guys in their primes. Time to let it go
Whyte, Joyce was always too hittable and slow, and unlike many of the guys Joyce beat, he is actually able to punish Joyce for it. Joyce could normally just walk through guys and grind them down and take their punches because they couldn’t hurt him, and he could get by even getting hit. He couldn’t do this against punchers especially if they have durability themselves, which Whyte actually had in his prime. Yes Joyce out jabbed Dubois and stayed away, but Dubois is as stiff as a board and every time Joyce jabbed with him, because Dubois didn’t move laterally, it got through every time and Whyte, to his credit, does keep his head off of centre line often, he can move his head and weave at times. Joyce could win if he boxed and grabbed every time the fight was up close, but I doubt he’d do that, he’d end up eating a left hook at some point and he can’t take it from someone like Whyte.
I'm not actually sore about that fight, Whyte showed more desire and Parker was too passive. I said Whyte "squeaked by" Parker not that it was a robbery or anything. A draw was IMHO the fairest result but as you said it was a very close fight so can't be upset about it. My point was simply that Joyce's win was far more convincing.
Agreed. I still think Joyce has a great chin. He ate untold punches from big punchers Chisora and Dubois (and Parker) all night and kept marching forward. It's just that Zhang's one of the hardest punchers ever.
