How do you guys see this fight going? Can Holy get the job done or is Prime George too much? Fight is over 15 rounds.
I'd still pick Holy to win but it would be a very different fight from their actual 1991 meeting. Foreman was brutal in the early rounds back in the 70's and with Holy's tendency to get lured into slugests with big puncher's he'd find himself in a deadly spot. He'd likely get decked and stunned a few times. But in order for a young George to win this, he'd probably have to finish Evander early and I can't see a prime Holy being stopped early by anyone. The real deal also punched with accuracy and could knock a fair number of guys out too. My thinking is George gets warn down for the stoppage after delivering ample punishment. incidentally this would be a terrific fight
I got Foreman on the basis that Holy likes to stand and trade. That wouldnt work against a prime George
I got Holyfield getting off the deck and getting through the early onslaught. I believe Evander would start to get his offense going by the 3rd 4th 5th rounds and I think he stops George late.
I started to write this on the thread about the 7th round. I've got Evander. He stood tall and George wouldn't have been able to push him into position for his big swings and uppercuts. George was formidable against Frazier as he was so much shorter and, like Norton, fought from a crouch. Stand up boxers like Lyle and Young made Foreman look human. That negates a lot of George's advantages and plays to Evander's strengths - quick hands, quick feet, great counter puncher = and ultimately means the fight goes a few rounds as George doesn't get Evander out of there. The longer the fight goes, the worse things get for Foreman. Holy by points 116-112
And yes, I know that the fight is over 15 rounds. I have legislated for a dirty fight between two of history's naughtiest heavies and have figured that the ref will deduct 30 points from each man. I'll stick with 116-112, over 15 rds, thankyou very much.
Tough fight!! Holyfield has underrated skills imo, he really does. I'm in between Foreman getting him out of there in the first half or holy surviving for a decision. Foreman was a force of nature, he's a chance of getting Evander out of there.
If George had used his jab as consistently in his first career as he did later on Holyfield would of had no answer but I don`t think Foreman would stick with the jab.
Agree. I think Holyfield has the right amount of heart, guts, recuperative powers to get through those scary rounds where a lot of other fighters couldn't. It`s not given but if anyone other than Ali could he would be the one.
Yes it's an agonizing process trying to split these two. I always believe Holyfield gets underdone in dream matches vs Larry Holmes. Holyfield is a great fighter.
