Well they were essentially the same size - with Tyson obviously weighing more. Both were obviously pressure fighters. Frazier was actually better at in-fighting, and Tyson was stronger - so I think it's sorta even there. Both threw big-time punches, and both could hurt the other. Frazier was more active, and had better movement. It's hard to discount Tyson's strength here though - I think he hit harder overall and could manage to push Frazier around. I think it would be a great fight and not so lopsided for Tyson. I think I'd probably pick Tyson, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.
Could you elaborate a bit on your "cause he had a short prime" comment? Tyson had a short prime as well!
Something tells me Frazier was not exactly immune to punishment from a big puncher, no matter how mentally strong.
Tyson would be bigger, faster and stronger. Bigger faster and stronger usuly wins. I see no reason this match up would be any diffrent.
As much as I like Frazier, he is my favorite fighter of all-time but Frazier's chin couldn't handle the big punches. He had a lot of heart though. Tyson KO in the 2nd or 3rd round.
I would say Tyson because he knows how to use them uppercuts and Fraizer is always bobing his head low so Tyson by kos him by a uppercut or left hook early.
There is not way Tyson would ko Joe Frazier, and there is no way Tyson last 12 rounds with Frazier either. I would pick Frazier by UD here, or maybe by tko in the later rounds.
A prime Frazier beat a top 3 or even the #1 greatest HW off all time, a prime Tyson beat.... The only people to beat Frazier were Foreman and Ali, not exactly Buster Douglas. Frazier is better in almost every way, he just didn't have the marketing machine behind him.
