Prime Frazier 1969-1971 vs Prime Foreman 1973

At least it's given us a laugh this fine Sunday morning.

 

Foremans jab was never better than against Frazier. Archie Moore had teached him to use it to measure the distance and keep Frazier on the backfoot. It worked perfectly. Foreman should´ve stuck to the simplicity of the jab - the straight left - if so he would´ve defeated Ali and stayed the champ for a decade.
But he wanted to throw punches, wild swings and he became a victim od his own lack of strategy.
But never against Frazier.
However, on the night of March 8 - 1971 - no one in the history of boxing could´ve won against Frazier - he was a human tank, and I think he would´ve cought up with Foremans chin during the last 5 rounds of the 15 rounder.

Although I would lean toward Foreman against Frazier at thier respective bests due to a styles comparison, I also think it's fair to say that Frazier in 73 wasn't the same Frazier we saw in '71 against Ali. He was singing with his band and enjoying himself quite a bit while taking on a couple of tomato cans in between. Hardly the right preparation for a man like Foreman. Joe was undertrained and overconfident against George and it cost him dearly. The FOTC took something out of him as well that he would never be able to get back. He left part of himself in the ring that night. Foreman made the exact same mistake btw against Ali in regard to his preparation for thier big fight in '74. He was full of himself and overconfident and figured he would do to Ali what he did to Frazier and Norton. It's mostly about styles but not preparing properly plays a part as well.

Perhaps if you weren't on here so much, under different aliases you might have spotted it?

 

Difference being Foreman had destroyed his number one challenger in 2 rounds and Frazier had spent two years fighting unranked nobodies. One was entitiled to feel confident one was not, but that was his choice.
