Machen really? 34 years old and had won 3 of his last 8 fights.
Who had Chuvalo beat when he fought Frazier?
Who did Foster ever beat at heavyweight?
    Mathis was unranked.

Mathis was unranked with a record built up on nobodies.
    Machen was shot

.Foster never beat a decent heavyweight and was not ranked at the weight.

Jones has one single decent win at heavyweight
The Olympic trials? They mean jack ****.
    Stop with the BS.

so chuvalo and wepner arn't notable fighters.
i will admit Machen was past prime, but he was still dangerous. Earlier in ’66, he gave prospect Jerry Quarry his first loss.
so mike quarry and ray anderson aren't decent heavyweights. ray anderson beat ali before they turned pro.

doug jones beat zora folley and arguably beat ali, the majority of the people in the arena thought he deserved the verdict. and jones beat tom mcneely.

Chuvalo and Wepner were fringe contenders at best.
Ray Anderson and Mike Quarry were lightheavies.
Anderson dabbled in the heavyweight lists but never beat a rated heavy.
    Quarry never fought one.
Anderson never fought Ali as an amatuer.
    Ali's amateur losses were to}

    Terry Hodge
    Kent Green
    Donnie Hall
    Jimmy Ellis
    Amos Johnson
    Percy Price
    John Hampton
Do you make this stuff up as you go along?:patsch

No he didnt arguably beat Ali he lost.

"Then Clay opened up. His hands pumping like pistons, he unleashed barrages of eight and ten punches at a clip. Jones took it all and replied with punches of his own. Cassius, however, had a big edge in the last two rounds, especially the tenth, when they staged several hot trades to the delight of the crowd"
    Tom McNeeley wow!

Anderson to his credit was one of the few men to beat the young Cassius Clay, who went on to became the Heavyweight Champion of the world, known later as Muhammad Ali. wikipedia

chuvalo and wepner both gave ali close fights with the latter even flooring him, they dont sound like fringe contenders to me

so the spectators just decided to throw beer, peanuts, ticket stubs, and even glass bottles at ali for no reason? Many thought Jones deserved the decision, which was loudly booed by the Garden Crowd. Of 25 boxing writers at the Garden that night 13 scored it for Jones, 10 favored Clay and 2 called it even.[2][3] The Ring selected this as its Fight of the Year in 1963.

The Cassius Clay-Doug Jones fight is readily available. Hell, YouTube has a 100 different guys who've uploaded it.

    Watch it for yourself.

I don't know why some people thought Clay lost. It was a competitive fight. Many of his early fighters weren't. Maybe the ringside reporters just gave Jones the nod in any rounds that were at all close.

I just didn't see any controversy.
