Funny how the washed up frazier lasted more than double that time

Frazier would have to have the correct tactics to deal with Foreman. Joe's coming in style puts him in great danger. Joe was able to evade a lot of George's punches the second time around but not all of them. Joe was ring damaged and was not in the best of shape the second time around. Tough to say with all the possible variables lining up. All that said, Foreman would probably still have won.
    Yes, I remember Houdini.

If all the variables lined up and Joe fought with '76 tactics anything is possible.
George might tire out from all that swinging and Joe could start in on that left hook. If you remember in the second fight Joe's hook could be heard connecting with George's face at the end of the fourth. Joe was coming off the ropes and George was pulling away. Sheridan even reacted with a "wow!". The '71 Frazier fighting this way may have been able to keep moving more and got into the later rounds when George would be gassing.

In the second fight he was backing away from Foreman which delayed the inevitable KO for a few rounds. If he came right after Foreman he would have been knocked out in the first round

And he won nothing in the second fight. Frazier was a one trick pony come forward that's it, he could not fight any other way because of his physique He would always get murdered by Foreman,Liston too.imo

Nicely summed up. All about styles as they say. Whereas an Ali or a Holmes would always pick a Foreman or Liston apart they'd always have a war with someone like Joe Frazier who would get blitzed by Foreman.

So Frazier has to absorb the punches of one of, if not the biggest puncher of all time and hope he gets tired from hitting him?:think

Sheridan reacted with a wow? How did Foreman react?
Any wobble? Any sign of distress? Frazier did not win a round in two fights with Foreman.

In less than seven rounds of fighting, he was knocked down 8 times.:vonnecunt

The thread was referring to a '71 Frazier, not a war torn, out of shape, '76 Frazier. The only thing about '76 was in mentioning a different approach for the '71 Frazier to use. Mentioning the left in the fourth was in comparing what a '71 Frazier could do. By the way, the '76 punch was decent except Foreman was pulling away and didn't get the full effect, though quite audible on the broadcast.

The thread seemingly ignored in the possibilities, however futile, of a '71 Frazier using the '76 tactics.

My feeling is that if Frazier is prime, and the referee is immediately intolerant of shoving off, and doesn't plow straight back in when hurt -- well, I'd still favor Foreman, but Frazier might pull it off.

Granting prime contestants, that's still two other very iffy qualifiers to grant Frazier the dark horse chance.
