Can still see Joe been hurt in this due to his style of coming in straight at George, and foreman could still punch. He may even go down a few occasions in the opening rounds. But the younger Joe will keep getting up. I see this as being similar to Alex stewart fight. Frazier keeps banging away and it's foreman that s taking the punishment now. Both fighters will be busted up but it's frazier who's the stronger at the end. Frazier by a close unanimous
Foreman didn't gain in stamina. He got 20 years older, took ten years away from the sport and gained 35 lbs in fighting weight. That doesn't equate to a gain in stamina. Gordon Gainer just did a thread about the leeway afforded to Foreman by us fans and he has a point. When men reach 45 and gain 35lbs they do not have the stamina of their lighter, younger years, particularly when they were a champion boxer in their 20s. That's a basic rule of physiology and, yes, it applies to Foreman too. We can't evaluate him if we keep working with some mythological figure. Remember, Foreman in 94 had just gone 12 rounds with Morrison; the next year he would go 12 rds with Axel Schulz. That was the level he was at. He had gained in patience by 94 (or was too slow to take most of the chances that came his way) and picked his shots which preserved his stocks of stamina. But if he had been winging haymakers in 94 the way he did in 73 he would have got tired very soon. And if he is patiently picking his shots rather than fighting at the breakneck speed of Kingston, does he keep Joe from racking up round after round? Not in my book, he doesn't. Prime Joe wins a clear decision.
Do you think Frazier could fight his usual fight and still win? Or does he adjust the way those guys did? That is the key here in my view.
I don't know tbh but Joe would have been so much faster than George, and would have had a much greater punch output. Joe was no slouch with the jab and may set up attacks behind it. Joe's not about to turn into Jimmy Young but he may have been wise enough to mix his attack up against a man so much bigger than him.
Agree. I think if they {Eddie} and Joe knew who Foreman was and how powerful he was the plan would have been much different. Futch would have tried to keep Frazier from walking into those uppercuts.
Helping is very different from winning. Frazier just cannot handle Foreman physically. We saw this in two fights lasting a total of less that seven rounds in total during which Joe was stopped twice, knocked down eight times and had a host of teeth knocked out of his mouth.
