atsch Gatti is famous for getting up after liver punches that would TKO a mortal...like ODLH. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZP-IfSZxl0[/ame] Gatti would certainly lose, but it wouldn't be a brutal one sided slaughter like people here are making it out to be. The guy did go 5 rounds with ODLH and Floyd, both far more skilled than Cotto. 40-9 (31) 77.5% KO IBF Super Feather World Champion (5 defenses, vacated) WBC Light WW World Champion (2 defenses, lost 3rd to Floyd) IBA Welterweight World Champion USBA Super Feather Weight World Champion Ring Magazine's "Fight of the Year" four times (1997, 1998, 2002, 2003) Won 2, Lost 2 Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year: 1997 (W KO5 Gabriel Ruelas) Ring magazine Comeback of the Year fighter for 2002. Amature accomplishments: 1992 Canadian Olympic team (left early to turn pro) Canadian World Jr. Championship, Peru 1991 3 Canadian Gold Gloves championships 2 Canadian National Titles
Cotto better at everything except heart.......and even so Cotto´s heart is really good..... I´m not sure who has the better chin..
Gatti was a more accomplished fighter but Cotto is considerably larger. Cotto by virtue of being larger.
They were on different levels. Gatti is a legit world champion and Cotto isn't. Cotto needs to be the man at least one weight class before he retires if he is to match Gatti. I don't see it happening.
Gatti was a warrior but he just didn't have the pedigree that Cotto did. He was never an elite level fighter and Cotto was/is.
How many belts in how many divisions are there? How many sanctioning bodies etc? Belt's mean **** all and are hardly indicative of what level you are on these days. They were on different levels and Cotto was a level above him.
even gomez wanted to continue fighting against cotto he still got stopped. You can get stopped when it looks like you have no chance at all.
As tough and as much heart as Gatti had, he would be taking punishment constantly from one of the hardest punchers he would have faced in his career without giving much back, where the fight would be stopped based on hopelessness as others have indicated. It would be very similar to Gatti vs Gomez, as like Gomez, Cotto's boxing class is just way above Gatti's and Gatti wouldn't even have the edge in sheer athleticism that he held on Gomez.
