'87 Hagler was barely Hagler in fairness. And we're talking about a prime GGG too, not a half-retired Marvin who was slow, uninspired, and out of ideas against a man he thoroughly underestimated and fought a moronic fight against.

I may well be wrong on this but it is my belief that 87 Hagler beats any version of the overrated Golovkin

You’re right about one thing, you’re dead wrong. Prime Hagler vs. GGG would’ve been a war, but by ‘87? Hagler was past his peak, slower, and leaning on toughness more than skill. Golovkin in his prime runs through that version of Hagler without too much difficulty

Nah, Hagler was ripe for the picking that night. He had practically stopped caring about the future of his career by then. I can't stand the apologia Hagler receives for losing such a winnable fight against an opponent possibly more dishevelled than himself but I'd be lying if I said he wasn't in terribly poor form that night, especially by his standards. Both Hagler and Golovkin are legitimate middleweight monsters though. A prime vs prime fight would always be a closely-contested affair but prime Golovkin would run roughshod over '87 Hagler.

Who has Golovkin beat who is better than 87 Hagler?

On that basis you could say Hagler beat Leonard

Honestly, the version of Danny Jacobs GGG beat would have been enough to beat '87 Hagler. And GGG beat Canelo much clearer than Hagler beat Leonard (and it is a fight which can be realistically scored for Leonard, while the same can't be said for Alvarez in Canelo-GGG 1). Quite frankly, I don't think either Leonard or Hagler would've beaten many ATG middleweights (or even most great middleweights) in the shape both were in when they fought one another. Both men were essentially done at the top-level.

I scored the first fight v Canelo a draw and Alvarez won the second fight by a close but clear margin. The less said about the third fight the better.Hagler is far better than both

He sure never displayed that against a top opponent.

I don't think we'll be able to shift each other's perspectives much then and would probably be best to resolve this with respectful disagreement.

It is good that two people can disagree on a topic and still be civil to each other.Sometimes i get carried away with my passion for certain fighters, but even though i slip up now and again i do my best to remain respectful in my comments.I look forward to seeing what you post in future
