Golovkin goes undefeated as well. Once upon a time I thought Callum Smith was truly the dog at SMW, but Golovkin would've beaten up the guy that Canelo was in the ring with. Kovalev was literally afraid to exchange with Canelo and played keepaway (I'm not gonna go into my thoughts on that strategy or fight), he'd have been terrified of Golovkin.
Not only would GGG obviously beat all of them, he'd have a good shot against prime Kovalev too, unlike Canelo. It's common knowledge he had the better of the early sparring with Kov. Many people don't understand the nature of weight classes. The fact Golovkin didn't move up to 168/175 doesn't mean he couldn't beat top guys there. We know he beat up Kov and Groves (though out of shape) in sparring, that he has the power and skills to hurt fighters this size. Jacobs was also practically a 168r when Golovkin fought him. The reason Golovkin or anyone else might not move up isn't that they couldn't win or even get titles, it's that they won't do as well and probably eventually lose fights due to the size disadvantage unless they are big juicers. So in this example Golovkin probably has the potential to beat Kovalev at 175, but he might lose too. Why fight in a division where you are losing fights because you're too small.
Apparently Golovkin stopped Groves and Kovalev in sparring. There was a lot of talk about both these incidents. He also got the better of Canelo when they sparred.
I think Callum Smith was completely weight drained for his last 2 fights at super middle. He was just looking to cash out vs. Canelo. If you have seen him at light heavyweight now he looks a lot better.
Oh..you're one of those naïve posters who still believe boxers move up in weight for 'challenges'. So cute!
He did look like an animal vs. Lenin true. I think his sheer size may have had an affect but then you gotta consider as well, Ryder is a dog and Canelo is Canelo.
its not about taking care of body, great fighters move up in weight to fight bigger men to test how they do while being smaller than their opponents
keep coping. lil g got broken in so bad he fought only 3 times since the 2nd ass whooping lmao https://i.imgur.com/qLm9ftO.png https://i.imgur.com/v04rTg9.png
GTFO here.... Most guys move up because they say they can't make weight. Or they've been KTFO out of their weigh class and HAVE to move up.
Possible reasons why Golovkin didn't move up: 1. Career longevity/health/family reasons (it adds more wear to take SMW/LHW punches than MW punches) 2. MW is a historical division with more money and prestige relative to SMW 3. Golovkin didn't believe that he would get the same special treatment as Canelo and others vis a vis drug testing 4. Golovkin believed that Ward may well have been able to survive 12 rounds and Ward would have likely got a hometown decision 5. Golovkin wanted to build a great legacy at MW by dominating his opponents and breaking the record for defences, which he will accomplish if he beats Murata in 2 weeks Golovkin also turned pro at 24, he was already a fully developed man (he was fighting at 165 lbs in the amateurs at 21). He didn't turn pro in his teenage years (let alone his mid-teenage years) and move through the weights as he matured and "bulked up". Furthermore, moving up and down weights can be a way to duck and age out dangerous opponents. For example, fighting blown-up WW Khan at a 155 lbs catchweight for the "MW" title, immediately vacating the belt and fighting Smith at 154 and weight-drained Chavez Jr. at 164 within an 8 month span rather than Golovkin at 160.
