I think in the early rounds Jones might make Haggler look a little silly. Then, about midway through the fight, Haggler would seriously hurt Jones and KO him cold.

Hagler was a superior boxer in every way. Inside, outside, countering, defense, creating angles. He had it all.

If Hagler comes at him the way he did with Hearns and most of his opponents, he'd take Jones out. My worry though is that Marvin sometimes let famous opponents get in his head too much. Jones might psych him into being too cautious. If I had to bet though, I'd put money on Hagler.

hagler was short , but had huge reach and a pole of a jab.

to beat jones he would have to fight in his hearns seek and destroy mode / cut down the ring /walk through jones bombs and get to roy and wear him down.

jones hit hard as a middle but hagler was as durable as any 160 fighter of all time

jones IMO now we have hindsight would be susceptable to a sustained onslaught v a fighter who would not be intimidated or discouraged / jones liked to potshot and fight in spurts /whereas hagler could go 12 at a good lick.

if hagler tried to make it a boxing match jones could outspeed him just like tommy hearns could have done to him / but while hagler had faults himself he matches up well if you was picking a fighter to beat 160 jones

i would also have fancied hearns v jones at 160 as well

Jones was naturally the bigger man. Hagler was muscular at 158 pounds in his physical prime . and jones weighed that when he was a kid. Jones was in his prime weight at 170 .plus if you give roy 24hours he will be a 170 pounder fighting in the 160 class facing a smalish 158 pounder.he is faster than hagler, bigger, taller, hits harder and probably the natural bigger size makes him stronger

    i have to agree, brutalforeman.

you know, the majority of people picked hearns over hagler going into that fight.

Roy Jones was a freak of nature, God given natural ability that we may see once in a generation, like a prime Camacho or prime Ali. Though fundamentally not sound those reflexes more than made up for any technical defentcies. Hagler was not close to the athelete Jones was. Hagler made himself thru extra hard work, dedication, and a Spartan lifestyle. Hagler lived and breathed the fight game. Prime Hagler could do it all in the ring, box, brawl, get a little dirty, and maybe the hardest chin in the history of the middleweights. And thats saying something with names like Zale,Lamotta,Cerdan,Monzon having graced that division. I can see Jones out slick even prime Hagler over a 12 rd fight. But in a 15rd fight, I definitely see Hagler eventually catching him. And seeing past prime Jones getting knocked out by far lesser men then Hagler consistently... Hagler would catch him and stop him. He could only hide his chin defentcies for so long from Hagler.

Roy might actually replicate what Ray did to Marvin, but to a prime Marvin at that.

Jones remains one of the fastest punching fighters I've ever seen but Hagler didn't adopt the mantra, 'destruct and destroy' for nothing and I think he'd be too powerful for Jones.
I prefer to rate Jones at light heavy where he seems to be more natural.
Who could beat Hagler at 160lb ?? In my opinion, nobody

Their primes were obviously at different divisions.

LaMotta would have the same chance he had against the Black Murderers row members in their prime ie he'd get schooled
Greb I've never seen and neither have you
Leonard and Robinson were great welters but not middle maybe the same could be said for Burley
Archie Moore and Charles have a good chance, both were atgs who should have got a chance at titles long before they did.
Hopkins wasn't busy enough to beat Hagler.
Toney could push Hagler, Nunn wouldn't.
Fitzsimmons ????? A fighter, any fighter from a 100 years ago or more has no chance with a modern fighter
