Prime Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a great counter puncher and knew how to win, but vs Prime Canelo Alvarez could prove to be a good fight. Hagler has to avoid being tempted into having a brawl as he did in the first Vito Antuofermo fight, which resulted in a draw in 1979. Marvelous would outbox Alvarez, by using his stiff right jab, and make Canelo play the role of the aggressor. Alvarez would not be able to defeat the Marvelous one and loses on points.

Hagler was a different fighter than GGG. I like GGG and he is solid and punches hard and takes over, but Canelo was fast and neutralized GGG in tough fights. Canelo beating GGG does not mean he could compete with Marvin Hagler. I just think Hagler is too strong and 75 inch reach and great skills and decent power 52 knockouts in 62 fights. I think Marvin stops him working downstairs and up. The Marvin who fought Hearns and before would beat Canelo, although Marvin fought hot and cold at times, he would beat him. I will say this, the Marvin Hagler who fought Leonard could lose a decision. Marvin declined a lot from 1985 to 1987.

Especially in the John Mugabi fight in 1986, it was evident that Marvelous Marvin Hagler was on the decline, but good fight though.

Don’t get me started George he lacks everything to be a people’s champion I was rooting for Floyd in there fight on one fact alone Floyd is true to his nature not a pompous cheat with a cardboard act of a personality.

This has the makings of an elite clash, very high level skills and very close contest. Alvarez probably boxes on the backfoot and looks to make Hagler miss and counter punch. Hagler looks to work off the jab and pick his exchanges. A forsee a very close fight. Maybe a controversial split decision

Laugh all what you want but this would be very far of being a routine fight for hagler

Too strong? At 160 Canelo looks more robust compact and solid than hagler to be honest, Canelo on the ring is probably heavier than hagler who never was a full sized middlewegiht. Hagler today would be with luck a welter.

Canelo at 160(not in the ring,he is heavier on the ring)

After Hearns I think Marvin lost interest. He always wanted that fame and respect, yet he was not an attention getter. Probably the least attention getter of all of the fab 4. But he wanted respect, and he got it and I think that was all he wanted. Then he takes a year off and fights Mugabi and looks rusty and sluggish in my mind, and what a shock Ray comes out and wants to fight him. Then he takes another year off and fights Ray.
