Not a bad post my friend, but you shouldn't suggest that a Prime Hatton couldn't batter a Prime Broner, you're picking a losing fight

You picked Gesta against Vazquez? It's Official, your opinion means nothing

The problem with Hatton was that he would barely lead with a jab, or a straight shot to get inside. He would primarily either lead with a hook, or stupidly try to jump inside. Now, he got away with this largely because of his impressive footspeed, but you didn't have to be a big mover to capitalize on his mistakes. Broners reach advantage is massive, and would be able to catch Ricky while coming in, lesser fighters did.

Whatever, these debates are pointless. Ricky was good, but lost to every great fighter he fought. We'll never know.

    Rarely lead with a jab?

How about the good Jab/Hook combo he lead with as a teenager?

It's well documented that as Ricky's career progressed, he fell in love with that swarming style he became known with and abandoned things like head movement, jabs, etc.

Like Broner fell in love with his spread feet and the pot shots? Rees was landing body-shots, heaven help him should a prime Hatton jab him in the face then unload the bodyshots.. Broner couldn't handle a prime Hatton I'm convinced, and to be fair, any boxing fan worth their salt could see this

Quintero? I thought Vazquez scraped this one, despite the fact that Quintero lost to Attah and a bunch of others, that could happen to anyone

Well let's be clear. Broner hasn't been dropped, much less visibly hurt in his entire career so far and has fought better competition up to this point than Ricky Hatton had. How do you know that Ricky would be able to crumple Broner with his shots? It's pure speculation. Hatton on the other hand was dropped and hurt several times at a similar point to Broner in his career, with lesser opposition.

You clearly have an agenda. You're not interested in looking at Ricky's shortcomings and really trying to make a cogent analysis.

You're simply a Ricky Hatton fan that wants to talk about how a retired fighter would beat a young up and comer. Thanks for the thread. :verysad

Ricky lost to the greats, but beat everyone else. Broner's potential is yet untapped. His greatness is unknown. So the answer is even less obvious to us now.

You're right about Ricky often shuffling forward with little put forward first, but feints and footspeed bother Broner more than anything else IMO. It's just a gap in skill. If Broner is going to win, it's catching Ricky coming in with a counter hook and following up with an offensive of straight punches and combinations. So good points there. But what I've seen suggests he doesn't have the timing. And honestly I could have sworn he was tiring a bit against Rees.

guerrero, khan, lucas, kotelnik, and few others would give the problem problems. when he moves to 140 that will be the time he gets testes. unles he fights gamboa at 135 but I don't think that fight will ever happen.

I thought he was too at one point in the fight. But then he would continually unleash these flashes of offense. I guess we'll never know the upper limits to his gas tank until he gets pushed again.

Exactly! He'd look winded, then commit to brilliant power-punching sequences. I agree, we'll see when he's pushed again.
