Yeah, I know. Arizmendi, in particular throwing some very nice punches in combination and was lucky to land at a ratio of roughly one in every three or four. And even then, Armstrong is using some nice head movement to take some of the mustard off the shots that do connect.
Excatly! Armstrong was great, but only if you let him. If you timed him on his way inside with Duran's punching power at lightweight, you could defeat him. Duran would smoke him, lightweight, welterweight, everywhere.:smoke
Very good post. That is exactly the thing about Duran that people fail to understand. He is forcing guys to fight desperately on the inside, but they could rarely nail him cleanly, whilst he is taking them apart.
I think that's the difference here. Versatility, adaptability and unpredictability are all in Duran's favor. We pretty much know what Armstrong's going to do.
The second Dejesus fight is what took Duran to another level for me. It's not that he dominates Dejesus one-sidedly -- Dejesus does exactly as he should. Slide, turn, make Duran miss, counter hard. You could argue that per punch Dejesus does better. It just dont matter, though. Too much chin, gastank, power, will. He was never going to win that fight.
I'd pick Duran, his ability to hit and not get hit while fighting on the inside, is the best I've ever seen. I would have to believe that Armstrong's style would lead plenty of opening for Duran to counter, and the counters would be vicious combo's to the head and body.
Armstrong was smaller than Duran,,,nobody, but nobody is going to walk straight in on the Los Manos de Piedra for 15 rounds. Duran by UD with a knock down of Hank.
Just don't get why people think Armstrong wins this fight. You don't come at Duran with almost little to no defense on the inside and out and expect to win that kind of fight. Hank has a great workrate/stamina and was a great swarmer, but that's the kind of war Duran would relish. A guy coming at him he could counter on the inside and coming in and who's willing to trade with Duran on the inside.. AND he's the smaller guy. Just don't think this is a good style matchup for him and that's saying something because I think Henry is a bad matchup for almost anybody.
